SERIE A ROUND 27

22 APRIL 2001

PARMA 0-0 JUVENTUS

This one was really grim viewing. So bad that I fell asleep. Amoroso skipped
a tackle, made his way into the box and despite loosing his balance managed
to dig out a cross, Conceicao touched the ball onto Lamouchi and he smashed
a first time shot against the crossbar. The closest anyone came to scoring in
the match. Buffon made an un-necessarily spectacular save from Zambrotta,
he could have just caught the ball. Juve were so desperate they put on
Fonseca. Trezeguet brilliantly pulled down Birindelli's deep cross and with
the entire goal to aim at he slipped and Sensini cleared.

BOLOGNA 4-2 BARI
Signori 13, 54 (Pen) Poggi 4
Locatelli 50 Osmanovski 76
Cruz 85

Poggi turned Cassano's centre past Turci. Signori equalised with a great free
kick. Gregori (goalkeeper) injured himself and Narciso came on in his place.
Andersson should have been sent of for a horrendous foul on Olive. Bologna
went in front with one of the best counter attacks of the season, well in
Round A. Padalino carried the ball out of his penalty area and squared to
Lima. Lima swapped passes with Tarantino before floating the ball into the
box and midget Locatelli sent a looping header over Narciso. A weak push by
Said was enough for the giant Cruz to defy the laws of gravity. Signori's one
step penalty gave him his 162nd goal in Round A, more than any other active
player in Round A with the exception of Baggio who also scored his 162nd goal
this weekend. Osmanovski pulled the score back to 3-2 with a fantastic half
volley but Signori's pass to Cruz put the game beyond the visitors.

It's a crying shame Signori has never won any major honours in the game.
He's been far more consistent than Batistuta for example.

Attendance : 20,000
Assists : Cassano, Signori (x2), Lima, Cruz, Said

LAZIO 2-1 VICENZA
Simeone 35 Jeda 89
Crespo 86

Peruzzi went off injured when going up for a cross. Simeone headed in a
rebound after Poborsky's shot came back off a post. Toni should have headed
in the equaliser but he's useless in the air. Sterchele made some brilliant
saves from Baronio. Cardone, deep in his own half with the ball at his feet,
had all the time in the world. He looked up, sent a perfect cross straight to
Crespo and he whacked it past Sterchele. 20 year old Jeda scored his first
Round A goal with a close range header from 19 year old defender Maggio' s
cross.

Lazio should get rid of Veron. He's done nothing for them all season and is
consistently inconsistent. Fiore will arrive next season and Baronio has
improved a great deal. Also I can't understand why Couto was allowed to
play having failed two tests for Nandrolone. A ban would be a blessing in
disguise for both Portugal and Lazio, he bloody useless.

Attendance : 45,000
Assists : Maggio

LECCE 3-3 MILAN
Lucarelli 35 (Pen) Bierhoff 37
Vugrinec 46 Shevchenko 43
Savino 65 Kaladze 90

Lecce tried to take out Shevchenko. The ref gave Viali a warning for a wild
challenge and when Lucarelli took a kick at the Milan striker he earned a
yellow card. They must have though they were playing in the 80's. Roque
Junior wrestled Lucarelli to the floor (literally) and then had the nerve to
question the refs decision to award a penalty. Lucarelli sent penalty expert
Rossi the wrong way. Serginho's corner deflected off a Lecce player and even
Bierhoff couldn't miss. Shevchenko headed Milan into the lead just before
half time.

Vugrinec scored his 10th goal of the season with a great shot on the turn.
Rossi made a fantastic save from Giorgetti. A spectacular diving header by
Savino put Lecce back in front. Kaladze volleyed in Giunti's free kick to earn
Milan a point.

Attendance : 20,600
Assists : Lucarelli, Serginho, Giorgetti, Tonetto, Giunti

PERUGIA 2-2 ATALANTA
Tedesco 34 Ventola 25
Ahn 95 Doni 70 (Pen)

Atalanta were all over Perugia in the opening minutes and took a well
deserved when Ventola got on the end of a superb left wing cross by
Dundjerski. Liverani's corner took a deflection off Inazio and fell at
Tedesco's feet, 1-1. Doni conned the ref into awarding a penalty. Both
'keepers made some great saves. In the fifth minute of injury time Petrachi
launched the ball into the box, Lorezini headed it out, Ahn took a touch
and then crashed the ball into the bottom corner. Fantastic finish.

Attendance : 8,000
Assists : Dundjerski, Doni

UDINESE 1-3 ROMA
Sosa 77 Montella 38
							Tommasi 46
							Nakata 57

Montella poked in a rebound after Turci saved Tomassi's shot. Montella
missed an open goal and his deflected cross was brilliantly volleyed in off
the post by Tommasi at the end of the first half. A fabulous volley by Nakata
gave Roma a much need three points. Udinese decided to play after going
0-3 down. Iaquinta and Sosa wasted great chances. Fiore sent a cross into the
box, Antonioli came out and got nowhere near the ball, Sosa headed in.
Antonioli is done next season.

It only took Capello a few weeks to realise that the reason his team had
thrown away a nine point lead was because his only in-from striker,
Montella, was sitting on the bench. Idiot.

Attendance : 24,000
Assists : Cafu, Fiore

VERONA 0-3 REGGINA
							Dionigi 20
							Cozza 42
							Mamede 92

Marrazina tried to pick out Dionigi but his cross bounced off the inside of
the post and over the line, Apolloni kicked it out and Dionigi put it away a
second time. Looks like they have awarded the goal to Dionigi. Cozza added
a second with a great bullet header and Round A's worst attack scored only
their 21st goal of the season when Verona's failed offside trap gave Mamede
the freedom of the pitch.

Cozza earned a second yellow for a late challenge on Mazzola. Adailton and
Apolloni were the victims of some cowardly playacting.

Attendance : 14,700
Assists : Mamede, Di Costa
Red Cards : Cozza 44 (Reggina), Adailton 81 (Verona), Apolloni 86 (Verona)

21 APRIL 2001

NAPOLI 1-1 BRESCIA
Amoruso 47 (Pen) Baggio 92

Not exactly sure why Napoli were awarded a penalty but Amoruso made up for
an earlier horrific miss by sending Srnicek the wrong way. Baggio finally
beat Fontana with an stunning low free kick, brilliantly sending the ball
around the wall into the net.

I've never been Baggio's biggest fan but you cannot help but admire the
quality of his football. Even more incredible when you consider he is 34
years old. If he played for Juventus and Milan like he has done for Bologna
and Brescia in recent seasons he would have been an all time great. He just
couldn't handle the pressure.

Attendance : 50,000
Assist : Amoruso

INTER 4-2 FIORENTINA
Vieri 11, 39 (Pen) Bressan 64
Dalmat 43 Chiesa 78
Sukur 56

Dalmat rode a couple of tackles in midfield before passing to Vieri. The
Fiorentina defence backed off and Vieri punished them with a well placed
shot in off the post. Repka gave away a penalty with a stupid lung on
Seedorf. Vieri whacked the ball past Toldo, his 15th goal of the season. The
impressive Dalmat tried his luck from distance, Amoroso's deflection gave
Toldo no chance.

Simic was all over Chiesa in the box but no penalty. Sukur scored Inter's
fourth goal with a magnificent first time strike. Nuno Gomes flicked on
Mijatovic's corner and Bressan bundled the ball over the line. Chiesa gave
Fiorentina some hope with an awesome close range chip over Frey. Frey then
made one of the most spectacular saves of this or any season, an amazing one
handed dive to keep out Bressan's bullet header.

Attendance : 51,662
Assists : Dalmat, Seedorf, Vieri, Nuno Gomes, M Rossi

18 APRIL 2001

LAZIO 1-0 PARMA
Thuram 12 (og)

A bizarre own goal kept Lazio's hopes of retaining their title alive. In a
crowded penalty area Simeone's shot was brilliantly saved by Buffon, Thuram
tried to head the ball to safety but headed past Buffon. Peruzzi made a
phenomenal save from Mboma. Appiah smashed a shot against a post. Nedved
also hit the woodwork for Lazio.
