SERIE A ROUND 28

29 APRIL 2001

ROMA 2-2 LAZIO
Batistuta 47 Nedved 77
Delvecchio 53 Castroman 95

Lots of fouls and dives in the first half but nothing in the way of scoring
chances. Thankfully the game came to life in the second half. Donkey
Delvecchio was involved in both Roma goals. He ran down the left flank,
Pancaro didn't bother to challenge, probably expecting him to fall over of
something, he swung a cross into the box which Batistuta superbly volleyed
past Peruzzi. Batistuta's first goal in over two months. Delvecchio then got
between Pancaro and Nesta to poke Zanetti's cross past Peruzzi. Like a true
Capello side Roma sat back and paid the price. Cafu headed Mihajlovic's free
kick straight to Nedved and he blasted an awesome volley into the roof of the
net. In the fifth minute on injury time (there were lots of stoppages in the
first half) more poor defending from a set piece gave Lazio the equaliser.
Castroman smashed Tomassi's clearance through a ruck of players into the
corner of the net.

'Sunny' from that stupid I kiss football advert, did an interview before the
second half. I hope he doesn't turn up before every big match in Europe
although that's probably the plan.

Assists : Delvecchio, Zanetti

ATALANTA 2-2 BOLOGNA
Ventola 48 Signori 58, 74
Morfeo 66

An uncharacteristically sloppy piece of non-handling by Pagliuca gave Ventola
the opening goal. Dundjerski was furious when Signori took a tumble outside
the box and with good reason, Signori scored from the resulting free kick.
Having struck the woodwork with a spectacular half volley, Morfeo equalised
minutes later with a half volley that was considerably less spectacular.
Signori punished some horrendous marking with a rare headed goal.

Attendance : 16,276
Assists : Doni, Signori, Rossini, Nervo

BARI 3-4 PERUGIA
Poggi 11 Ahn 66
Mazzarelli 42 Robbiati 73, 75
Marcolini 49 Materazzi 81 (Pen)

Poggi converted a penalty awarded for a foul on Madsen. Mazzarelli doubled
Bari's lead with a fantastic free kick. De Gregori made himself an opening
before crashing the ball against a post, Marcolini tapped in the rebound.
Probably the first time in years Bari have scored three goals in a match but
not the first time they've let in four. Ahn pulled a goal back from close
range then two goals in two minutes from super sub Robbiati stunned the
home side. He met Ze Maria's cross with a diving header and then curled an
awesome free kick up and over the wall. Sibliano hauled down Vryzas, the
ref bravely awarded a penalty. Materazzi scored from the spot, his 10th of
the season!

Attendance : 4,000?
Red Card : Madsen 80 (Bari)
Assists : Madsen, ?, Blasi, Ze Maria, ?, Vryzas

BRESCIA 1-0 INTER
Baggio 12 (Pen)

Baggio converted a spot kick awarded for a foul on Emanuele Filippini.
Srnicek made great saves from Ferrante and Recoba. Tare's long ball released
Hubner, he rounded Frey and Cirillo made up for giving away the penalty by
clearing off the line. Hubner earned a long overdue yellow card for diving.

Attendance : 26,000
Assit : Emanuele Filippini

FIORENTINA 2-1 UDINESE
Chiesa 51, 55 Muzzi 12

Adani tried to shepard a ball out of play, Muzzi threw himself at Adani and
somehow managed to hook the ball over Toldo into the net. Phenomenal finish.
Chiesa volleyed Fiorentina level and scored goal number 19 of a fantastic
season with a trademark free kick.

Nuno Gomes desperately needs to regain his confidence. He's been bloody awful
this year.

Attendance : 28,000
Assists : Rossi, ?

JUVENTUS 1-1 LECCE
Tudor 40 Conticchio 41

Juve wasted several good headed chances. Chimenti came out to claim a cross,
dropped the ball at Kovacevic's feet but the big striker hit the side
netting. Chimenti brilliantly saved Trezeguet's volley. Savino screwed up a
clearance and Tudor shot past Chimenti. Lecce equalised 15 seconds later.
Vasari hit a superb ball with the outside of his foot to Colonnello, he
whipped in a cross which Conticchio met with an awesome header.

Kovacevic charged down Malusci's attempted clearance and raced clear but with
only Chimenti to beat chipped the ball wide. Zidane must have been watching
Figo last night because he took a dive in the box with no one near him and
the ref awarded a penalty. Must be a special rule for players who win awards.
Ironically, like last night, justice was served as Inzaghi took the spot kick
and hit the outside of the left post. In the fifth minute of injury time
Inzaghi controlled the ball on his chest and let rip with a volley which
rebounded off his favourite left post, hit Chimenti and bounced out.

Awesome drama. The Italian commentator must have said incre'dible at least
10 times. He also said 'the ball in the box', literally in English. Now I'm
just waiting for them to pick up words like bollocks and diving twat!

Attendance : 25,000
Assist : Colonnello

MILAN 1-0 VERONA
Shevchenko 68 (Pen)

Bierhoff showed that he has lost none of his awesome ability by blowing a
great opening created by Shevchenko. Gattuso almost killed a Verona defender
when challenging for Serginho's cross. Ferron punched clear a cross but his
trailing leg caught Bierhoff in the mid-riff and he doesn't need an invitation
to go down. Shevchenko converted the penalty. Cossato blew an open goal
following brilliant interplay between Colucci and Salvetti. Shevchenko
skipped around Laursen and Anastasi, drew the 'keeper out but shot wide.
Colucci made an equally horrendous miss.

Attendance : 40,000
Assist : Bierhoff

28 APRIL 2001

VICENZA 0-1 PARMA
							Di Vaio 80

Vicenza laid siege to Parma' s goal but they couldn't find a way past an
inspired Buffon. Do Vaio stole the points with a spectacular half volley.
His 11th of the season. Not bad considering he spent the first two months of
it on the bench.

Attendance : 14,140
Assist : Sensini

REGGINA 3-1 NAPOLI
Dionigi 6 Edmundo 59
Marrazina 42
Zanchetta 50

Dionigi scored at the second attempt after Fontana saved his initial shot.
Taibi made three great saves then Marrazina done Napoli on the counter
attack. He brilliantly controlled Cozza's pass on his chest and drilled a low
shot past Fontana. A terrible defensive header gifted Zanchetta Reggina's
third. Taibi was adjudged to have brought down Pecchia in the box, in which
case he should have been sent off. Taibi made a fantastic save from Amoroso's
penalty. Moriero sent a cross into the box, Taibi made a half arsed attempt
to claim the ball, Amoruso poked the ball to Edmundo and he tapped into an
empty net. Taibi made a fantastic save from Pecchia, Dionigi missed an open
goal. Baldini and Mamede were sent off for arguing.

Assists : Cozza, Amoruso
Attendance : 24,000
Red Cards : Mamede 89 (Reggina), Baldini 89 (Napoli)
