SERIE A ROUND 3

ROMA IN RELEGATION ZONE

16 SEPTEMBER 2001

UDINESE 1-2 MILAN
Muzzi 73 (Pen) Shevchenko 15
							Inzaghi 55

A clever finish by Shevchenko gave Milan an early lead. He took a quick look
at Turci's position and toe poked the ball inside the post, leaving the 'keeper
rooted to the spot. Udinese's only notable attack came at the end of the
first half from a corner. Abbiati flew off his line and palmed the ball
weakly back into the box, Bertotto shot but Abbiati made up for his earlier
mistake with a great save and Milan eventually cleared.

Inzaghi missed a 100% chance in the first minute of the second half, heading
over from close range. A superb pass by Shevchenko straight through Sottil's
legs sent Inzaghi clear and he calmy slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Inzaghi should have scored a second when a defensive mistake let him in but
he missed the ball and Bertotto cleared. Muzzi converted a penalty awarded
for Kaladze's clumsy challenge on Martinez. Laursen headed against the post.
Abbiati made an awesome save in injury time from Zamboni's deflected shot.

Contra was abysmal when defending. Jorgensen scared the shite out of in the
first half. Shevchenko probably does as much running and tackling back as any
defensive midfielder. Simply awesome.

Assists : Contra, Shevchenko, Martinez

BOLOGNA 1-0 PARMA
Cruz 59

There were plenty of chances for both teams. Frey was lucky to escape when he
made a Peruzzi style run out of his area, about 30yds, to clear a long ball.
Pagliuca pulled off one of his Hollywood specials from Junior. Ferrari made a
brilliant clearance to deny Signori after the striker rounded Frey. Di Vaio headed
against a post. After such great attacking play it's was a sloppy goal that gave
Bologna the points. Cannavaro headed Wome's cross straight to Cruz and Frey
somehow managed to let his weak volley roll under him into the net.

Frey has looked a shadow of his former self since joining Parma.

Attendance : 20,000

BRESCIA 1-1 LECCE
Baggio 93 Chevanton 13

The wonderfully named Giacomazzi threaded a ball to fellow Uruguayan
Chevanton and despite Castelazzi getting a touch he couldn't keep the ball out
of the net. There was a lucky escape for Lecce early in the second half.
Calori headed Baggio's cross onto the post and Kozminski almost broke his neck
when he threw himself at the rebound which Chimenti clawed out AFTER the
ball had crossed the line. Baggio earned his team a well deserved point when
his shot squirmed under Chimenti.

Attendance : 13,000
Assist : Giacomazzi

FIORENTINA 3-1 ATALANTA
Nuno Gomes 2 Rinaldi 3
Chiesa 12, 82

Nuno Gomes just about managed to stay onside as he volleyed Cois' marvellous
chipped pass into the net. Rinaldi scored seconds later with a fierce strike
from a difficult angle. Nuno Gomes headed down another sensational pass,
this time from Morfeo, and Chiesa blasted a right foot volley past Taibi.
They combined for Fiorentina's third.

Attendance : 13,000
Assists : Cois, Zauri, Nuno Gomes (x2)

INTER 2-1 VENEZIA
Kallon 75 (Pen) Maniero 89
Adriano 93

Bettarini was sent off for his second bookable offence, a stupid challenge on
Conceicao and an equally stupid challenge on Di Biagio gave Inter a penalty and
the lead. Inter ball watched as Venezia were seemingly going nowhere spraying
passes around in midfield until Marasco chipped the ball into the box, Maniero
turned Zanetti and squeezed a shot inside the post. Adriano won the match by
lashing in a rebound after Rossi had saved his header.

Attendance : 55,000
Assists : Di Biagio, Marasco
Red Cards : Cordoba 34 (Inter), Bettarini 43 (Venezia)

LAZIO 0-0 TORINO

Lazio dropped three easy points because of Crespo's wild finishing. He failed to
get on the end of Castroman's superb long pass and volleyed horribly wide after
interplay between Lopez and Fiore opened up Torino. He also had a point blank
volley saved by Bucci and hit fresh air when attempting to attack Stankovic's
cross.

Attendance : 40,000

PIACENZA 2-0 ROMA
Hubner 38
Di Francesco 51

Tosto slung a cross into the box which Zago didn't even bother to defend,
Springsteen got in front of him and volleyed past Pelizzoli. Classy finish,
shite defending. Di Francesco, so foolishly discarded by Capello in favour of
donkey Assuncao, scored with a superb diving header. Roma had claims for a
penalty turned down. They used up all their luck last season.

Attendance : 12,000
Assists : Tosto, Volpi
Red Card : 79 Lima (Roma)

VERONA 1-1 PERUGIA
Mutu 80 Liverani 42 (Pen)

Oddo wasted a glorious chance to give Verona the lead after Mazzantini had
scrambled to clear the ball. It landed at the defenders feet and with the
goal at his mercy he smashed the ball high and wide. Ahn made sure he got
Ferron sent off with the classic 'drag your leg over the 'keeper' trick.
Substitute 'keeper Doardo almost saved Liverani's penalty. An awesome strike
by Mutu from the edge of the box gave Verona a share of the points.

Attendance : 13,980
Assists : Ahn, Italiano
Red Card : Ferron 39 (Veron)

15 SEPTEMBER 2001

JUVENTUS 3-2 CHIEVO
Tacchinardi 21 Marazzina 9, 19
Tudor 42
Salas 83 (Pen)

Del Piero missed an open goal from a rebound and then Chievo stunned mighty
Juve by taking a two goal lead. £32 million Buffon made a simply unbelievable
mistake, catching Eriberto's cross and then dropping it at Marrazzina's feet.
Minutes later Perrotta ran onto Corradi's back heel and centred for Marrazina
who hit a first time shot into the corner. Tacchinardi sent a volley ripping into
the net and Tudor headed Juve level at the end of the first half from a Del
Piero free kick.

Despite their horrendous offside trap Chievo looked set for a point until a
dodgy penalty gave Juve three points. Salas managed to strike the crossbar
when brilliantly put through by Zambrotta (although he was offside), as Mora
intercepted the rebound he seemed to control the ball with his arm. Replay's
showed he didn't but given his position the ref was totally blameless.

Assist : Perrotta, Del Piero
