Serginho Wins Milan Derby

Milan go joint top following victory in the Milan derby. Juve are held at home
to Bologna. Lazio thump Modena to leap-frog Inter into 3rd place. Parma thrash
Roma in a upper mid-table battle which leaves both teams nine points off the
top.

Corradi scored with a spectacular overhead kick after Cesar helped
on Fiore's cross via a deflection. Lopez met a Mihajlovic corner to
score a rare headed goal. He set up the third with by tackling back
and winning the ball off a defender! He released Cesar down the
left flank, he ran into the box and feigned to shoot three times
taking out Ballotta and Zamboni before lifting the ball into an
empty net. Substitute Chiesa, on for Lopez, crossed to give Corradi
a second and rapidly improving Lazio their biggest win of the season.

As Seric tried to cut out a ball over the top he slipped, Micillo came off
his line and Jorgensen dropped an exquisite lob over his head into the net.
De Sanctis made a phenomenal save from a point blank Tare header but
he was beaten on the resulting corner by team-mate Sensini. Brescia
had several chances to seal victory but the unplayable conditions didn’t
help.

Marazzina 27

Perrotta pounced on a mistake by Grella and passed to Cossato,
he found his strike partner and Marazzina swept the ball into the
corner. Ambrosio, deputising for the presumably injured Lupatelli,
made a brilliant double save from Rocchi and Greico. Andersson
was sent off for a non foul on Busce.

PARMA				3-0		ROMA
Bonazzoli 11, 72
Mutu 23 (Pen)

An outstanding reverse pass from Mutu put Bonazzoli in on goal and he
hit An excellent first time strike giving Parma an early lead. Roma were
then punished for giving another contract to Aldair, he pushed Bonazzoli
shirt in the box, penalty. Mutu sent Antonioli the wrong way. Bonazzoli
headed in Mutu's deflected corner. The post denied Parma a fourth goal.
Fuser had Roma's only worthwhile effort, brilliantly saved by Frey.
Guardiola should have been sent off for a horrible injury time foul on
Barone.

Roma aren't just poor without Totti, they're downright pathetic.

Perugia went in front with an absolutely magnificent goal. Obodo passed
wide to Pagliuca, he flicked the ball to Caracciolo, Caracciolo flicked it
back, Pagliuca then volleyed a short cross to Caracciolo, Caracciolo
half volleyed to the back post and Fusani headed past Ferron. Rossi
wasted a great chance to equalise at the end of the first half. Miccoli didn't
make the same mistake early in the second, he pulled down a long ball
from Ze Maria and fired into the corner. Ferron denied Amoruso with a
stunning double save. Milanese headed in a third deep into injury time.

PIACENZA			1-0		TORINO
Di Francesco 23

A quick counter attack gave Piacenza the points. Mangone hit a superb long
pass to Caccia out wide left and he stuck the ball to the back post and
Di Francesco headed into an empty net. Guardalben made two excellent
late saves to deny Toro a point.

REGGINA			1-1		ATALANTA

Gautieri headed Atalanta in front from Zauri's teasing cross. Nakamura
carried the ball 30yds before sending a perfect deep cross into the box
which was met by substitute Savoldi, 1-1. Taibi made brilliant saves
from Mozart and Di Michele as Atalanta held out for a rare point
away from home.

A shocking mistake by donkey Vivas gave Milan the points in a
typically closely contested derby. As Rivaldo hit a pass into the box
Vivas threw himself at the ball, completely missed allowing Inter
nemesis Serginho to round Toldo and tap into an empty net.
Recoba headed straight at Dida. Serginho should have scored a
second but failed to get on the end of a cross following good work
by Rivaldo and Inzaghi. Vieri did a South Korea, blazing  over the bar
with the goal at his mercy. Shevchenko dragged a shot just wide of
the post. Toldo made a great save from Kaladze late on.

An important victory for Milan who are now joint top despite having
faced 5 of the 6 'top' teams i.e. Juve, Inter, Parma, Lazio and Chievo
with Roma, on paper at least, their most difficult match in the
remaining first half of the season. Inter have two extremely difficult
ties left - away to Parma and Lazio. Juve have yet to face Chievo,
Roma or Lazio.

Iuliano 85					Signori 66 (Pen)

Cruz managed to win a penalty at the third time of asking, he went for
the dive over the onrushing 'keeper trick, it never fails. Signori sent Buffon
the wrong way. Pagliuca made a staggering save from a deflected Di Vaio
effort but was beaten on the resulting corner by Iuliano's powerful header.
In injury time Locatelli smashed the ball against the underside of the
crossbar.
