Sparkling Roma failed to sparkle but an early penalty from Totti sent them three points
clear of 2nd placed Milan (who have a game in hand). For once it was the Roma defence
who provided the only Roma highlight, Pelizzoli making a miraculous save from Amoruso's
deflected header.

Ancona had way too many chances in this match but Lazio came away with the points
thanks to a magnificent lob by Liverani.

Vieri started the match on the bench, where he belongs. Kily Gonzalez fired Recoba's
cross to the back post and Martins was left with the simple task of side footing into the
net, not the type of goal he usually scores. He should have scored a second but shot just
wide following a one-two with Cruz. An absolutely brilliant goal killed off Bologna.
Cruz hit a reverse pass to Martins who cleverly dummied for Recoba and a confused
Bologna defence watched him send the ball wide of Pagliuca. Vieri came on for Martins
and was denied what would have been a fantastic goal when Pagliuca managed to claw
his lob against the post.

Maniero headed on Martinez' cross, Mauri bounced the ball off his knee, turned and just
got his shot away before Cribari could intercept. Di Biagio headed in the second from

European footballer of the year elect Nedved gave Miccoli his first and he recovered
from a slightly heavy first touch to drill in his second.

Maresca's through pass broke Parma's poor offside trap, Del Piero slotted into the
corner and a minute later Nedved smashed a half volley into the net.

Having gone close with a scissor kick last week Flachi went one better this time when his
overhead kick found the bottom corner. Samp hit the bar twice but Perugia equalised
against the run of play. Antonioli tipped a shot against the bar and Ignoffo was the first
to react. Margiotta pressured Falcone into losing the ball to put Perugia in front. Three
minutes later Tedesco bounced the ball off his knee, turned and volleyed into the top corner.
Another in a long line of mistakes by the dreadful Tardioli got Samp back into the match.
He tipped Doni's low free kick against the post it bounced off his shoulder into the net.
Flachi equalised with a scissor kick, a fitting end to a spectacular match.
