SERIE A ROUND 17

18 January 2004

BRESCIA 0-1 MILAN
							Pancaro 81

Crappy match which picked up late on. Dida made a brilliant save from Del Nero's volley
and from the resulting corner Mauri missed an absolute sitter. Pancaro headed in a corner.
Kaka should have scored a second but his lob came back off a post and Dainelli was sent off
for pushing Tomasson in the face.

Assist : Pirlo (ck)
Red Card : Dainelli 95 (Brescia)

ANCONA 0-0 PERUGIA

Perugia still haven't won a league match this season. Jardel was presented to the crowd
after/before the match. He still looks fat.

Attendance : 11,000

BOLOGNA 3-1 CHIEVO
Signori 1 Santana 33
Tare 17
Nervo 44

A lightning start by the home team who had already gone close to scoring before Signori
whacked in a loose ball, his first from open play this season. Tare doubled Bologna's lead
from a corner. An exquisite first time lob from Santana embarrassed Pagliuca but Bologna
restored their two goal lead at the end of the half when Nakata found Nervo with an
excellent first time pass. Nice to see Nakata playing well again.

Attendance : 18,000
Assists : Bellucci (ck), Nakata
Red Card : Zanchi 75 (Bologna)

INTER 0-1 EMPOLI
							Rocchi 91

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Emre got a second yellow for hacking down
Vanucchi. Inter fell apart after that and Di Natale went close twice before he slid in to
meet Tavano's centre.

I bet the Vieri crisis is blamed for this one. He didn't bother travelling with the club
to the Coppa Italia match against Udinese in mid-week and the official reason behind
him not playing was a 'muscle problem'. The sooner he leaves the better.

Attendance : 30,000
Assist : Tavano
Red Card : Emre 63 (Inter)

JUVENTUS 4-2 SIENA
Del Piero 15, 59 (Pens), 64 Ventola 71 (Pen), 80
Trezeguet 37

The pitch was covered in a blanket of snow and it continued to snow throughout. No surprise
to see so many penalties awarded in these conditions. After Del Piero put away the first penalty
Trezeguet did his Van Basten impression when he leapt in the air and volleyed in Zambrotta's
cross. Del Piero completed his hat-trick thanks to a Delli Carri's hospital pass. Buffon should
have been sent off for chopping down Lazetic in the box. Ventola converted the penalty then
danced around the Juve defence to score his second. The 18th goal Juve have conceded in the
league this season.

Attendance : 30,000
Assists : Conte (won pen), Zambrotta, Del Piero (won pen), Lazetic (won pen), Mignani

REGGINA 1-3 LECCE
Cozza 26 Bojinov 3, 60
							Chevanton 4

Ledesma headed on a corner and Bojinov headed into the net. A fantastic pass sent Chevanton
clear on the break and he doubled Lecce's lead less then a minute later. Cozza reduced the
arrears with a tap-in but any hopes of a comeback ended when Sottil was sent off for bringing
down Bojinov. On the hour mark he ran onto a through pass, held off Mesto and shot into
the corner, nice finish.

Attendance : 20,000
Assists : Ledesma, ?, Di Michele, Chevanton
Red Card : Sottil 31 (Reggina)

ROMA 3-1 SAMPDORIA
Carew 10 Bazzani 6
Totti 60, 67

With dumb and dumber sharing defensive duties in the absence of Samuel and Chivu it
shouldn't really come as a surprise that Roma conceded a goal. They ball watched a
long ball by Flachi and Bazzani lobbed over Zotti. Carew headed in the equaliser from a
superb cross by Cassano. Totti scored twice in 7 minutes. His first a rare diving header
following by a excellent individual goal. He ran half the length of the pitch before chipping
the ball into the corner. Sampdoria won a penalty at the third time of asking, none
of the previous three were penalties, but Zotti made amends for his mistake with a
fantastic save from Flachi. Carrozzieri earned a second yellow for pulling back Totti.

Attendance : 52,000
Assists : Flachi, Cassano, Mancini, ?,
Red Card : Carrozzieri 94 (Sampdoria)

17 January 2004

MODENA 1-1 LAZIO
Campedelli 61 Lopez 24

Lopez scored his first goal of the season by starting and finishing a counter attack. Lopez
intercepted a pass as Lazio were defending a corner, he swapped passes with Muzzi before
rolling the ball into the corner. Campedelli smashed in the equaliser when Stam missed
Grandoni's cross, the other defenders missed it as well but they're useless so don't count.

Assists : Muzzi, Grandoni

UDINESE 1-1 PARMA
Ferrari 23 (og) Adriano 79

Adriano returned after a long injury layoff to rescue a point for beleaguered Parma. He
cancelled out Ferrari's own goal with a bullet header.

Attendance : 15,000
Assist : Bresciano (ck)
