SERIE A ROUND 9

9 November 2003

ROMA 2-0 LAZIO
Mancini 81
Emerson 86

For 80 minutes this match defied the laws of physics by sucking AND blowing at
the same time. Mancini earned himself the headlines with the type of performance
that has seen him win European footballer of the year awards - in Championship
Manager 4. He broke the deadlock with a spectacular mid air volley from
Cassano's free kick then on a counter attack he crossed to Emerson, who waited
for the ball to bounce before firing past Sereni.

Assists : Cassano (fk), Mancini

INTER 3-0 ANCONA
Cruz 26
Materazzi 50
Vieri 80

A brilliant free kick from an unlikely source set Inter on their way to a comfortable victory.
Materazzi headed in a second from van der Meyde's cross and Vieri finally scored after blowing
some easy chances from substitute Lamouchi's through pass. After his volley came back off the
post Vieri hit the rebound straight at the 'keeper and took his frustrations out on a microphone
stand, I'm surprised he managed to hit it.

Attendance : 45,000
Assists : ?, van der Meyde, Lamouchi,

JUVENTUS 4-1 UDINESE
Di Vaio 78, 88 Jankulovski 65 (Pen)
Miccoli 85
Trezeguet 94

Del Piero blasted a penalty awarded for handball against the crossbar. Udinese were awarded a
penalty of their own when Buffon took out Fava. Penalty but no red card, how does that work?
Jankulovski converted. Di Vaio equalised from a Thuram cross and Miccoli turned in a rebound
after De Sanctis saved from Tacchinardi. Di Vaio and Trezeguet turned a narrow victory into a
thrashing.

Attendance : 31,418
Assists : Fava (won pen), Thuram, Nedved (x2)

PARMA 0-0 MILAN

Milan failed to take advantage of the absences of Frey, Adriano and Morfeo. Parma were pegged
back for the majority of the second half but two incredible saves by Sicignano and a terrible miss
by Seedorf gave stubborn Parma a draw.

Attendance : 25,000

PERUGIA 2-2 LECCE
Margiotta 47 Chevanton 6
Grosso 85 Ledesma 56

Tadioli came on for Kalac who appeared to pull up a thigh strain. Chevanton tested him
with a shot from 30 yards, he failed, 0-1. Margiotta equalised in first half injury time.
Ledesma put Lecce back in front with another shot from distance but Amelia let in a
late free kick.

Perugia better hope Kalac's injury isn't too serious because Tardioli looks hopeless.

Attendance : 10,000
Assists : ?, Bothroyd, Cassetti?, ?

REGGINA 1-1 MODENA
Dell 'Acqua 34 Campedelli 45

Two set piece headers, one from a corner and one from a free kick.

Attendance : 22,325
Assists : Nakamura (ck), Milanetto (fk)

SIENA 1-2 CHIEVO
Chiesa 76 (Pen) Pellisier 27, 48

Chievo went route one for the opener. Semioli headed on Frezzolini's goal kick and
with a brilliant first touch Pellisier brought the ball under control before finding the
bottom corner. Flo managed to shoot wide from 6 yards. I still haven't figured out why
Cufre played a back pass from the half way line, Pellisier rounded the 'keeper and tapped
into an empty net. Ventola did his Klinsman impression to win a penalty, Chiesa converted
but 9 man Chievo (both cards were harsh) held on.

Attendance : 11,000
Assists : Semioli, Ventola (won pen)
Red Cards : D'Anna 65 (Chievo), Semioli 60 (Chievo)

BRESCIA 0-0 BOLOGNA

Last season under Mazzone Brescia must have set some sort of record for the number of
goalless draws. This season they are one of the most spectacular teams in the league but
Mazzone's cancerous football returned when he took his current team to the Stadio
Rigamonti. A stunning effort by Baggio was the highlight of this encounter. With his back to
goal his flicked up the ball, turned and volleyed but Pagliuca made a save to match.
Journeyman striker Bellucci missed an open goal. Pagliuca made a fine point blank save from
Di Biagio. Bologna defended the entire second half and unfortunately managed to hold on
for a point.

SAMPDORIA 2-0 EMPOLI
Bazzani 21
Doni 26

Bazanni ran onto Doni's pass and despite the attentions of two defenders he managed
to steer the ball past Bucci. Five minutes later Doni's free kick rebounded off the bar and
over the line. The Empoli players were convinced the ball hadn't crossed the line, replays
suggest otherwise, how much of the ball actually crossed the line isn't clear.

Assists : Doni, ?
