CHIEVO 2-2

EMPOLI

Semioli 3

Rigano 9

Pellissier 61

Tavano 53

Zanchetta intercepted a poor clearance from Lucchini with a volleyed pass to
Pellissier who played in Semioli as he turned and the striker rode a tackle before
slamming the ball past Berti. Serafini's back heel confused the Chievo defence and
Rigano resisted two attempted hacks from D'Anna before shooting wide of
Fontana. Tavano put the visitors in front with another high quality goal. Rigano
headed on a long ball and with his first touch Tavano pushed the ball wide of
a defender, he checked back on his left foot then with his right shot between
two defenders into the bottom corner. This guy is quality. Fontana parried a
well struck shot from Zanchetta straight to Pellissier and he volleyed the ball
into the ground over Fontana and into the net. Obbina, who sat out the last
45 minutes in mid-week due to fatigue, came on in the second half and
showed he needs to work on his volleying.

FIORENTINA 2-1

CAGLIARI

Toni 53

Suazo 23

Jorgensen 82

Swayze seized on a mistake before flying past a defender and lobbing over
Frey. Fiore ran onto a clearance and as he turned dropped an exquisite lob
over the Cagliari defence and Toni volleyed past Campagnolo. Esposito missed
a great chance to put Cagliari in front before Jorgensen swept Toni's centre
into the corner.

Fiore should be back in the Italy squad, he's been one of the top three midfielders
in the league this season, along with Vieira and Kaka'.

Attendance : 30,627
Red Cards : Conti 84 (Cagliari), Canini 88 (Cagliari)
Assists : n/a, Fiore, Toni

LECCE 0-2

MESSINA

D'Agostino 80, 83

Messina broke the deadlock with a fantastic counter attack. D'Agostino played a double
one-two with Muslimovic and on the edge of the box sent Pecorari crashing to the
ground with a nutmeg before hammering the ball into the top corner. Cozzolino struck
the post before D'Agostino beat Sicignano for a second time with a stunning long range
shot.

Attendance : 11,000
Assists : Muslimovic, ?

LIVORNO 2-0

PARMA

Lucarelli 16
Morrone 28

Two headers condemned Parma to their sixth defeat, with Lorenzo Sanz Jr
watching. The first, from Lucarelli, was a deft diving header and the second
a bullet header from Morrone.

I'm not sure why Berretta is still coach of Parma. I would have thought after
last week he was certain for the chop but he's still hanging on. I will be amazed
if he's not sacked by the end of the week. Carmignani should never have been
replaced.

ROMA 2-1

ASCOLI

Panucci 39

Domizzi 83

Mexes 91

Roma created and wasted a dozen chances before Panucci connected with Chivu's
free kick and sent the ball slamming in off the underside of the crossbar. It was a
similar story in the second half, lots of chances and bad finishing. Domizzi looked
to have stolen a point with an amazing free kick but Mexes headed in a deserved
winner after Kuffour flicked on from Taddei.

Attendance : 37,000
Assists : Chivu (fk), Bjelanovic (won fk), Kuffour

UDINESE 0-0

PALERMO

I almost missed the highlights (not that there would have been a report) because of a
a film on Canal 5 (one of Berlusconi's channels) called Vacanze di Natale 2000. It was
a sort of Italian Carry On film. It's probably the shits, even if you understand Italian,
but at the same time it's also the best film ever made because of Megan Gale and
Carmen Elektra prancing around in little clothing. Thank you Berlusconi.

SAMPDORIA 2-2

INTER

Diana 6, 34

Cambiasso 31

Cordoba 40

Pisano intercepted a pass with a high challenge, I'm surprised the ref let it go.
After getting the ball back from Gasbarroni he stormed down the right wing before
over-hitting a cross to the back post, Dirty Diana connected with a sensational
lopping header and the ball dropped right under the top left corner. Martins
climbed on a defender to help on a cross and Cambiasso fired Inter deservedly level.
Zenoni restored Samp's advantage with another superb header before midget
Cordoba connected with a stunning, inch perfect Mihajlovic free kick to make it
2-2. In an entertaining second half Antonioli saved brilliantly from Cambiasso and
Bonazzoli headed against the crossbar.

Great match and despite what many will think a good result for Inter.

Attendance : 28,000
Assists : Pisano, Martins, Zenoni, Mihajlovic (fk)

MILAN 3-1

JUVENTUS

Thuram 14 (og)

Trezeguet 76

Kaka' 27
Pirlo 46 (fk)

Nesta was back in the Milan defence. Apparently his injury was brought on by
too much PS2. Milan started very aggressively and maintained that (or to be
more precise Gattuso did) throughout the whole match. Gattuso showed his
intent with two bone crunching 'tackles' on Vieira and Nedved and got into a
heated exchange with Emerson. In between that took the lead. Seedorf, who has
scored some outstanding goals against Juve while playing for both Inter and Milan,
appeared to get another with a brilliant shot from the edge of the box which lopped
wickedly over Chimenti but the replays showed a deflection off Thuram. Juve failed
to clear Pirlo's raking free kick and in a packed penalty area Kaka' thundered a right
foot volley into the net. Kaka' drew a foul in the Juve half. Pirlo, who was miles away
from goal, hit a free kick over the Juve wall and Chimenti dived far too late and could
only help the ball into the net.

In the second half a dangerously strong challenge from Stam in the box denied
Nedved a clear goalscoring chance and Chimenti almost dropped another
Pirlo free kick. A scuffle broke out after Mutu followed through when challenging
Nesta for a cross. Trezeguet gave Juve what turned out to be a feint glimmer of
hope with a splendid volley from a delightful Vieira lob. Past it's Del Piero and Vieri
went close after coming off their respective benches.

An amazing performance from Gattuso who single-handedly stopped Juve's previously
invincible partnership of Vieira and Emerson from getting a grip on midfield. Shame
he didn't play like that last spring. As in the Bayern match Juve showed ZERO
character after falling behind.
