ASCOLI 2-1

SAMPDORIA

Zenoni 45 (og)

Bonazzoli 54

Tosto 79

Samp appeared to have more possession but paid the price for showing a distinct lack
of urgency and fell behind on the stroke of half time when Tosto's speculative shot
took a deflection off Zenoni wrong-footing Antonioli. The visitors were level less than
ten minutes later. Two Ascoli defenders failed to pick up Bonazzoli as he turned in a
deflected cross from close range. Tosto headed in the winner from Cariello's free kick.

INTER 5-0

LIVORNO

Materazzi 11
Cruz 19
Cambiasso 49
Cordoba 51
Recoba 61

The lettering of the sponsors on Inter's shirts (Pirelli) was in Chinese. Materazzi began
the rout with a volley on the turn after Veron had a shot charged down from a corner.
Cruz went top of Inter's scoring charts (as Adriano watched from the stands) when he
tapped in Favalli's center.

Former Milan and Inter playboy Coco saw red for a foul on Ze Maria on the edge of
the box. Cambiasso latched onto a clearance and hammered in the third. Cordoba
threw himself at Materazzi's header to make it 4-0. Recoba barged his way through
two defenders following another deflection, rode a tackle and slotted into the corner.

PALERMO 2-2

CHIEVO

Corini 15 (Pen)

Amauri 18, 39 (Pen)

Caracciolo 92

Palermo's lead lasted less than three minutes. Teen sensation Obinna received the
ball with his back to play, turned and beat two players on the right wing before
sending a precise cross into the box which Amauri met with a spectacular diving
header. Amauri shot Chievo into the lead from the penalty spot after Obbina fell
under Santoni's sloppy challenge. Amauri and Pellissier wasted good chances from
long balls on the break. Deep into injury time Caracciolo blasted home an equaliser
after Corini's clever pass took out the Chievo defence.

Keep an eye on Obinna (The African Maradona), this kid looks like a once in a decade
type talent.

PARMA 1-1

TREVISO

Simplicio 34

Fava 67

Parma were continually slinging crosses into the box, trying to take advantage of the
height of Corradi yet it was midget Simplicio who eventually connected with one to
head Parma into the lead. Treviso were rewarded for their second half pressure with
an equaliser from Fava.

REGGINA 2-0

LECCE

Tedesco 14
Cozza 52

Tedesco latched onto a knockdown, beat two players with an elastico then let rip from
30 yards with a shot that flew into the top corner. Lecce should have been level long
before Cozza added a second.

CAGLIARI 0-2

MILAN

Gilardino 25 seconds

Shevchenko 28

Gilardino pounced on confusion in the Cagliari defence to give Milan an instance lead.
As Cagliari were threatening to draw level Shevchenko caught Carini by surprise with a
powerful left foot shot from 25 yards. Costacurta was the stand-out defender,
partnering Maldini in Nesta's absence. There was welcome news for Milan in the
second half when Inzaghi and Jankulovski made their returns from injury.

SIENA 2-3

UDINESE

Chiesa 53

Di Michele 26, 30, 46

Bertotto 66 (og)

Di Michele opened his account for the season on the break, finishing emphatically
from Mauri's pass. He tapped in a second after Mirante couldn't hold a Iaquinta's shot.
In the first minute after the restart Di Michele completed his hat-trick with a sharp turn
and quick finish. Chiesa began the comeback with a superb goal. Falsini fired a low
cross into the box, Chiesa killed the ball instantly as he turned then shot into the
corner. Bertotto turned the ball past his own 'keeper when trying to clear Bogdani's
header.

The games most controversial incident followed. As Obodo was on a stretcher receiving
treatment and taking a sip of water several of the stretcher carriers were standing over
him. One of them suddenly kicked his legs and fell to the ground clutching his face.
A bemused Obodo looked on before a melee ensued between the Udinese players and
the stretcher staff. Iaquinta attempted to confront the man at the centre of the farce
but as he was pulled back he took another theatrical dive to the floor.
