20 year old Swiss midfielder Zdrakov Kuzmanovic scored his first Serie A goal from Santana's excellent first time cross. Five minutes after Frey left the pitch with a thigh problem his replacement, Avramov, was picking the ball out his net. Vargas latched onto a poor clearance from a corner and rifled the ball through a ruck of players via a deflection off a team-mate. As usual Mutu came to Fiorentina's rescue. Taking a ball from Pazzini he accelerated away from two defenders before letting rip with a fierce shot from 25 yards which flew into the top right corner.

Mannini equalised from a deflected Lavezzi centre. Zalayeta and Piccolo were sent off during half time for some shenanigans in the tunnel. Pozzi smashed in his second from another deflected cross but injured his knee in the process and had to be stretchered off. Napoli captain Domizzi was sent off for jumping on Giovinco. Under pressure from Tedesco a Cagliari defender sliced Jankovic's free kick across his own goal and Cavani headed in at the back post. Cassani helped make the second with a magnificent run. Starting on the right flank he carried the ball from his own half, cut inside a defender and in mid step-over with the outside of his right foot poked the ball to Cavani and from his return pass hit a first time cross between three Cagliari defenders to Jankovic who nutmegged George in the Cagliari goal. Cavani scored a comical own goal. Facing his own net when defending a corner he attempted to head the ball clear with disastrous results.

Pepe volleyed Udinese into the lead from a D'Agostino free kick. Swiss International Gokhan Inler, regarded by the Italian media as one of the best midfielders in the league, ran into traffic on the edge of the Reggina penalty area but recovered then chipped a beautiful pass to Di Natale who pulled off the shoulder of a defender before tapping into the bottom corner. Amoruso hammered a shot against the underside of the crossbar and the ball was gathered by Modesto out on the left flank, he cut inside the box, turned a defender twice and from a ridiculous angle hammered a left foot shot into the top right corner. With Reggina pushing forward in search of an equaliser Udinese hit them on the break. Pepe intercepted a cross and as he turned hit a perfect longball 60 yards downfield to Di Natale who raced away from the two defenders who were desperately trying to keep up before curling the ball wide of Campagnolo.
