Serie A Round 13

Batistuta's header almost certainly kills off Juve's titles hope as Fiorentina
increase their lead at the top to four points. Parma survive a second half
onslaught to keep their unbeaten home record intact. Inter and Milan leave it late
against Udinese and Vicenza respectively but no doubt as to the star of the day,
Mihajlovic scores a hat-trick of free kicks as Lazio maul Sampdoria 5-2.

13 December 1998

BARI 2-1 EMPOLI
Innocenti 24 Carparelli 16
Zambrotta 55

Carparelli gave Empoli the lead with a great strike from Lucenti's cross. Innocenti
headed Bari level with a header from Madsen's corner. Masinga smashed a header
against the crossbar and Lucenti's clearance was punished by Zambrotta's brilliant
overhead kick. Baldini had a goal disallowed for offside.

Attendance : 19,000

BOLOGNA 1-1 SALERNITANA
Signori 16 Paramatti 31 (og)

Signori continued his hot streak with a fabulous first time finish from the
impressive Binotto's cross. I don't know how old Binotto is but Italy need quality
midfielders and this guy has real class. Paramatti deflected Vanucchi's free kick
past his own 'keeper with one of those lame toe poke clearances. Signori struck
the post with a scissor kick and Bologna also had a shot cleared off the line.

Attendance : 26,533
Red Card(s) : Bolic 88 (Salernitana)

LAZIO 5-2 SAMPDORIA
Mihajlovic 29, 44, 52 Palmieri 37, 55
Stankovic 83 (pens)
Salas 91

3 free kicks from Mihajlovic one of which deflected off Palmieri and 2 penalties
converted by Palmieri won by Sgro and Pecchia. Stankovic scored another great
goal by ghosting past two defenders and Salas did the same from a wide angle.
De La Pena had a good game for Lazio.

Attendance : 35,000

MILAN 1-0 VICENZA
Weah 84

Luiso missed a point blank header early in the game and Leonardo wasted some
great chances in the first half. Brivio pulled of an unbelievable save from a Maldini
volley. Rossi did the same from a free kick. Ambrosini was booked for diving and
then sent off for dissent. Ziege missed an un-missable chance before Weah won
the game with a tap-in following great work by Boban and Bierhoff.

Attendance : 50,000
Red Card(s) : Ambrosini 72 (Milan)

PARMA 1-1 ROMA
Crespo 40 Gautieri 62

Chimenti blocked Chiesa's powerful strike but Crespo tapped in the rebound.
Gautieri poked in Totti's cross. Roma should have won a penalty after Buffon
flattened Totti in the box as he attempted to shoot. Roma dominated the second
half and surprisingly had no trouble ploughing their way through the Parma
midfield the defence however was a different proposition, Thuram and Cannavaro
were simply on another planet. Some of the tackling by both players could not
have been more perfectly timed. Totti had a superb second half.

Attendance : 28,000

PERUGIA 2-1 CAGLIARI
Rapajic 37 Berretta 91
Maspero 92

Rapajic scored his 7th goal of the season and it was a beauty, he intercepted a
ball on the half-way line and ran 30yds before blasting a shot into the top corner.
Zanoncelli was sent off for a nothing challenge. Berretta looked to have won a
point for Cagliari with a goal in injury time but Maspero headed in Nakata's cross
seconds later.

Attendance : 15,000
Red Card(s) : Zanoncelli 84 (Cagliari)

UDINESE 0-1 INTER
							Ronaldo 87

Udinese should have been awarded a penalty when West handled in the box. Both
'keepers pulled off superb saves, Pagliuca from Jorgensen and Bachini and Turci
from a point blank Ronaldo header. Ronaldo looked to have been stopped when
attempting his trademark dribble and shoot trick but Baggio managed to poke the
ball into his path and he easily beat an exposed Turci. Pagliuca denied Amoroso
late on with an unbelievable save. Ronaldo looked very sharp and played as well
as at any time this season. Udinese deserved a point.

Attendance : 27,000

VENEZIA 0-0 PIACENZA

Some 0-0 draws are exciting this wasn't.

Attendance : 8,499

FIORENTINA 1-0 JUVENTUS
Batistuta 58

Heinrich was denied a chance when Peruzzi made one of his trademark idiotic
charges at his feet. Toldo saved Montero's long range drive. Edmundo struck the
crossbar and then set-up Batistuta who dragged his shot wide. Edmundo got
Montero sent off with a shameful dive. Batistuta headed in Oliveira's corner.
Juve's best chance of the match saw Deschamps shot take a deflection off
Amoroso and rebound off Toldo's post. Edmundo charged through the Juve defence
but screwed up a great chance with a poor final touch and missed another chance
minutes later when played in by Rui Costa. Cois should have been red carded for
a challenge from behind on Zidane. Edmundo gifted Oliveira a one on one with
Peruzzi thanks to an outrageous back heel but Oliveira made a complete balls up.

Red Card(s) : Montero 42 (Juventus)
Attendance : 27,000
