Lucescu quits Inter following their 4-0 defeat away to relegation threatened
Sampdoria. Juve fail to close the gap on the top four, drawing at home to Roma.
Batistuta gets back on the scoresheet in Fiorentina's victory over Piacenza, two
early goals are enough for Lazio to see off in form Venezia and two fantastic goals
help Udinese defeat Parma.

21 March 1999

BOLOGNA 4-2 VICENZA
Nervo 2 Otero 42, 85
Simutenkov 79
Andersson 83
Ingesson 90 (Pen)

Brivio spilled Kolyvanov's shot, Nervo scored from the rebound. Marocchi was
sporting a fetching yellow scarf around his neck. Andersson's header was cleared
off the line. Otero scored after Bologna made a mess of a punt upfield. Andersson
flicked off for Simutekov to put Bologna in the lead and the Russian returned the
favour as Andersson put Bologna further in front. Otero tapped in after Brunner
failed to hold his initial shot. Eriberto won a penalty, Ingesson converted.

Attendance : 22,000

CAGLIARI 5-1 EMPOLI
Mbomba 21, 46, 60 Di Napoli 64
Muzzi 26 (Pen), 80

Mbomba looked offside when he put away De Patre's superb pass. Sereni should
have been sent off for flattening Mbomba in the box. Muzzi converted the penalty.
Mbomba grabbed his second with a finish almost identical to his first, latching
onto a pass from Zebina and completed his hat-trick at the second attempt after
his header was saved. Zanetti was sent off for handball. Di Napoli turned
brilliantly and smashed in from 25yds. Muzzi once again profited from Empoli's
offside trap to grab his second.

Red Card(s) : Zanetti 62 (Cagliari)
Attendance : 20,000

FIORENTINA 2-1 PIACENZA
Batistuta 7 S Inzaghi 71 (Pen)
Esposito 90

Fiori made a mess of what should have been a routine catch, Batistuta hooked the
ball into an empty net. Inzaghi won and converted a penalty, his 7th of the season.
An out of sorts Edmundo was replaced by Esposito, Batistuta missed some decent
chances. Esposito won the match with a tap-in from a fantastic Heinrich cross.

Red Card(s) : Repka 73 (Fiorentina)
Attendance : 33,467

JUVENTUS 1-1 ROMA
Iuliano 72 Delvecchio 52

The first half was bloody awful, lots of fouls and stop start action. Paulo Sergio
hooked the ball into the box from Tomassi's throw in and Delvecchio headed past
midget De Ascentis. A superb reverse pass by Fonseca was despatched by Iuliano.
Totti should have been sent off for several late challenges. Konsel pulled off a
brilliant save from Amoruso's header and Aldair stole the ball of Inzaghi's feet as
he rounded Konsel and was about to tap into an empty net. Totti flashed a shot
wide in injury time.

Attendance : 47,405

LAZIO 2-0 VENEZIA
Conceicao 8
Mihajlovic 12

Recoba struck the crossbar with an incredible curling strike. Conceicao crashed in
a volley from Favalli's cross. Mihajlovic curled in a free kick.

Attendance : 55,000

MILAN 2-2 BARI
Bierhoff 42 Osmaovski 6, 79
Ganz 92 (Pen)

An inept clearance by Costacurta gifted Osmanovski a opening and the Swede
lifting the ball over Abbiati to give Bari a shock lead. Weah missed on open goal
from Helveg's cross. Boban's shot was blocked, Bierhoff tapped in the rebound.
Bierhoff took a leaf out of Weah's book and missed an open goal. Another gift for
Bari, Ziege got caught pissing about in his own box, Giorgetti stripped him of the
ball and centred for Osmanovski to notch his second. Bari were also feeling
generous, Innocenti's handball was so blatant even Ray Charles would have seen
it. Ok so that line is overused but Roy Orbson doesn't quite have the same ring,
besides, he's dead.

Attendance : 60,000

PERUGIA 1-0 SALERNITANA
Rapajic 69

Rapajic's free kick saw off Salernitana in a match marred by crowd violence.

Attendance : 16,000

SAMPDORIA 4-0 INTER
Montella 12, 53 (Pen), 65
Ortega 70

Montella's first was a header from a fabulous Ortega cross. Baggio got in Lassisi's
face following one of the Frenchman's trademark dangerous challenges, Lassisi
pushed him, the ref and the rest of the Inter team got involved, Lassisi starting
pushing everyone, Ventola pushed Lassisi and Lassisi dropped him to the ground.
Red cards for both. Lassisi V the entire Inter team, I'd pick Lassisi although West
and Simeone should give him a good go. Palmieri won a penalty with a dive and a
playacting routine that even Klinsmann would be embarrassed to try, rolling on
the floor with what appeared to be an injured knee and bollocks, beats the Oscars
anyday. Montella's third was a great volley from a corner and Ortega capped off a
great performance with an outrageous chip from outside chip from close range.
Another of those off the charts performances by Ortega. Recoba who?

Red Card(s) : Lassisi 19 (Sampdoria), Ventola 19 (Inter)
Attendance : 25,000

UDINESE 2-1 PARMA
Sosa 22 Vanoli 68
Amoroso 89

Some brilliant ball juggling between Amoroso and Sosa led to the first goal, Sosa
turning in the box and smashing his shot under Buffon's legs. Cannavaro was sent
off for bringing down Amoroso when he was through on goal. Vanoli equalised
from a free kick. Udinese tore through Parma's defence almost at will. Wapenaar
pulled off two brilliant saves in each half. Amoroso gave Udinese a deserved
victory with another fantastic goal, Poggi chipped in a ball over the top of Parma's
defence, Amoroso chested the ball, lifted it over his head with his right foot,
knocked it down with his shoulder and blasted a left foot shot past Buffon.
Awesome goal. Amoroso and Sosa are the best strike partnership in Serie A by
an absolute street. Parma fail the test again.

Red Card(s) : Cannavaro 44
