Serie A Round 27

The top four fail to win, Milan hold Lazio to a goal less draw, Parma are also
held at home to Cagliari and Ronaldo returns to inspire Inter to victory over
Fiorentina. Roma record their first away win of the season over Bari and
Piacenza edge out Udinese in an 8 goal thriller.

3 April 1999

BARI 1-4 ROMA
Masinga 59 Di Biagio 12, 54
							Cafu 79
							Di Francesco 83

Di Biaggio blasted Roma into a 2 goal lead with a deflected free kick and brave
header from Paulo Sergio's corner. Neqrouz punted a ball upfield, Konsel bottled
out of a challenge with Masinga for the loose ball and Masinga shot into an empty
net. Cafu scored his first of the season following good work by Delvecchio and
Di Francesco completed the scoring thanks to a break from midfield by Alenitchev.

Attendance : 25,000

EMPOLI 1-0 JUVENTUS
Bianconi 26

Bianconi headed in Di Napoli's free kick. Juve's first loss under Ancelotti,
hopefully the first of many.

Red Card(s) : Morrone 88 (Empoli), Tacchinardi 88 (Juventus)
Attendance : 12,414

LAZIO 0-0 MILAN

Vieri had a goal harshly disallowed for offside. Leonardo went off injured after
shooting wide following great play by Bierhoff and Weah. Abbiati saved
brilliantly from Vieri's feet. Ambrosini volleyed wide from Bierhoff's header.
Once he learns to score he'll be the complete midfielder. Boban spurned Milan's
best chance, ballooning over the bar from close range. Vieri had a few half
chances and a claim for a penalty. I was looking forward to the midfield battle
between Ambrosini and the so called great Almeyda but it didn't happen due to
Lazio's constant long balls.

Attendance : 70,000

PARMA 1-1 CAGLIARI
Stanic 18 Muzzi 57 (Pen)

Mbomba tore through Parma's offside trap, brilliantly chipped the ball over Buffon
off the underside of the crossbar and replays showed over the goal-line and out
but the goal wasn't given. Stanic headed in Chiesa's corner. I cannot understand
why it has taken Malesani so long to realise how useful Stanic can be, he scores
a good number of goals from midfield and is far more effective than Boghossian.
Fuser struck the crossbar with a shot from outside the box, Stanic also struck
the crossbar from the rebound. Sartor pulled down Mbomba which is a miracle in
itself as by looking at him you would think nothing short of a shotgun would
bring him down. Muzzi converted the penalty.

Attendance : 21,000

PERUGIA 0-0 BOLOGNA

Bologna struck the crossbar. Simutenkov shot wide with the goal begging.
Antonioli saved Perugia's best chance, a volley from Rapajic. Bologna were
without Andersson, Signori and Binotto and looked 2nd rate without them.

Attendance : 15,000

PIACENZA 4-3 UDINESE
Piovani 14 Jorgensen 5
S Inzaghi 45 (Pen) Bachini 9
Vierchowod 64 Pierini 36
Cristallini 72

Jorgensen began the goal rush with a brilliant free kick. Bachini volleyed
Udinese further in front minutes later. Piovani got Piacenza off the mark with a
tap-in from Inzaghi's header. A hospital pass of World Class stupidity by
Sacchetti gifted Udinese their third goal, Pierini easily heading past Marcon.
Sacchetti was substituted minutes later, he can count himself lucky he wasn't
shot. Inzaghi took his trademark dive in the box and helped himself to another
penalty, his 8th of the season. Inzaghi missed a point blank header but
cro-magnon man Vierchowod was on hand to head Piacenza level. Marcon
pulled off a miracle save to deny Pierini and Inzaghi won another penalty
but Turci saved his tamely hit spot kick. Cristallini scored an unlikely winner
pouncing on Stroppa's deflected cross. An incredible fight back by Piacenza
helped by Udinese's miserable collapse in the second half.

Red Card(s) : Bachini 77 (Udinese)
Attendance : 10,000

VENEZIA 0-0 SALERNITANA

Recoba had his moments but couldn't match the brilliance of his last home
performance against Fiorentina, I guess he was due an off day sooner or later.

Attendance : 10,040

VICENZA 1-0 SAMPDORIA
Otero 33

Ortero muscled his way past a Samp defender to win the game with a strike from
the edge of the box. Boy are Samp's defenders a bunch of midgets. Negri missed an
open goal. Aurelio was sent off for a criminal stamp on Montella. Iacopino was
sent off for tripping Schenardi.

Red Card(s) : Aurelio 61 (Vicenza), Iacopino 68 (Sampdoria)
Attendance : 16,000

INTER 2-0 FIORENTINA
Ronaldo 45, 83 (Pen)

Two penalties by Ronaldo capped off an encouraging display by the Brazilian. The
first awarded when he made the most of a idiotic shirt tug by Falcone and the
second when Zamorano fell over Toldo's legs although he immediately got to his
feet and continued running. Batistuta was left to scrap on a couple of free kicks
and half chances.

Red Card(s) : Firicano 90 (Fiorentina)
