SERIE A ROUND 7

BOBAN IS BACK!

Weah wins the Milan derby with a late headed goal. Crisis for Fiorentina
as they slip to their 3rd consecutive league defeat and Trapattoni offers
his resignation. Juve climb up to 2nd place despite drawing away to Bari.

23 OCTOBER 1999

PERUGIA 2-1 VENEZIA
Amoruso 54, 73 Maniero 10

The Japanese fans were out in force to witness the first Serie A meeting
between Nakata and Nanami. Petkovic won a penalty with the classic I've
been shot in the back dive, Maniero converted at the second attempt.
Nakata and Amoruso, on loan from Juventus, hit back to win the game.
Amoruso equalised with a volley from Nakata's disguised pass and put
away a rebound after Mazzantini palmed away Nakata's shot.

Attendance : 10,000

INTER 1-2 MILAN
Ronaldo 20 (Pen) Shevchenko 72
							Weah 89

The first chance fell to Weah but Peruzzi easily saved his tame shot.
Ronaldo won and converted a penalty after a stupid challenge by Sala.
Ronaldo was sent off for 'elbowing' Ayala after the linesman fell for
an Oscar winning performance by the Argentinean midget. Inter could
have had a second penalty after Sala had his hands all over Vieri in
the box. Zac then made his third tactical blunder, the first obviously
was playing Ayala, the second playing Giunti behind the front two and
number three substituting Ambrosini for Albertini.

Giunti was strechered off following a clash with Peruzzi, Boban replaced
him. Serginho came to life following a great run and cross, Peruzzi cleared
the danger. Weah ballooned a header over the bar from Maldini's cross,
Bierhoff had a goal disallowed for offside, Weah once again ballooned a shot
over the bar following great play by Shevchenko and Serginho. Shevchenko
headed a Serginho cross against the crossbar, the ball deflected off Sala,
Domoraud's clearance bounced off Shevchenko and past Peruzzi, 1-1.
Serginho and Boban combined for Milan's next chance, Shevchenko heading
wide from Boban's cross. Typical, Milan start getting quality crosses into
the box once the best header in the World is taken off. Weah pounced on a
deflection off Zanetti but Peruzzi made a great double save. Ayala was sent
off for bringing down Vieri when through on goal. Cauet put through Vieri
with a superb pass, he ran between Guly and Sala but poked his shot wide.
Weah finally scored, powerfully heading in Boban's corner.

Prior to Ronaldo's sending off Inter looked dangerous, following his
dismissal they resorted to pumping long balls upto Vieri. Inter sorely
missed the presence of Di Biagio and Paulo Sousa, Jugovic is well below
his best. Boban, Shevchenko and Serginho were fantastic for Milan. Weah
blew far too many chances, it's a shame Bierhoff never gets that type of
service. Inter cannot afford defeat at home to Lazio next week.

Red Card(s) : Ronaldo 31 (Inter), Ayala 81 (Milan)
Attendance : 78,815

BARI 1-1 JUVENTUS
Spinesi 86 Pessotto 21

Pessotto played a one-two with Del Piero, ran from the half way line and
beautifully placed a shot in off the post. Conte wasted a great chance to
make the game safe when he shot straight at Mancini from close range.
Spinesi equalised when his low free kick found it's way through the Juve
defence. Kovacevic was sent off for a love tap on Andersson. Juve move upto
2nd place with 14 points which makes no sense because they're awful.

Red Card(s) : Kovacevic 88 (Juventus)
Attendance : 45,000

BOLOGNA 0-0 VERONA

Signori struck the crossbar with a free kick. Seric was sent off for a foul
on Signori.

Red Card(s) : Seric 64 (Verona)
Attendance : 28,000

CAGLIARI 0-3 UDINESE
							Van der Vegt 4
							Muzzi 7, 63

Van der Vegt gave Udinese the lead with a deflected free kick. Muzzi grabbed
a brace, Sosa hit the crossbar. Mboma and Oliveira went close for Cagliari.
Cagliari look doomed already, when a team hires a second coach and there is
still no turnaround you know there are big problems.

Attendance : 15,000

LAZIO 4-2 LECCE
Pancaro 26 Lucarelli 16, 33
Stankovic 30, 32
S Inzaghi 93

Sesa's miss-hit shot fell to Lucarelli and a brilliant change of feet opened
a route to goal. Pancaro powerfully headed in Mihajlovic's corner. Stankovic
scored his first after Marruocco spilled a Salas cross and headed in
Boksic's cross. Negro deflected a Lucarelli shot past Marchegiani and
Mihajlovic denied Lucarelli a second (or third depending on your point of
view) with a brilliant tackle. Inzaghi scored with a diving header from
Veron's cross.

Attendance : 45,000

PIACENZA 2-0 FIORENTINA
Cristallini 83
Di Napoli 89 (Pen)

Just to show the fabulous depth of the Fiorentina midfield, Trap replaced
Amoroso with Bressan. Chiesa went close from a free kick, Balbo headed
against the post. The less said about Batistuta's performance the better.
Cristallini headed in Rastelli's free kick and Rastelli went down in the box
after Di Livio breathed on him, Di Napoli converted. Repka was sent off for
calling the ref a twat. Trap offered his resignation after the match but
the Fiorentina board turned down his offer.

Red Card(s) : Repka 92 (Fiorentina)
Attendance : 10,000

REGGINA 2-2 PARMA
Baronio 53 Crespo 1, 54
Pirlo 59

Fuser crossed into the box, Crespo headed in off the post via a deflection.
Buffon brilliantly palmed Baronio's free kick onto the post and then
made a hash as another Baronio free kick managed to miss everyone in the
box and ended up in the net. Parma hit back immediately, Crespo ran onto
a miss-hit Walem pass and stayed on his feet despite a blatant shoulder
tackle and tucked the ball under Orlandoni. Possanzini flicked on Baronio's
corner and Pirlo beat Buffon at the near post. Baronio looks a real good
prospect.

Attendance : 24,000

TORINO 1-1 ROMA
Scarchilli 20 Di Francesco 54

A great run by Diawara led to the first goal, his cross deflected off a
Roma player to Scarchilli, he bounced the ball off his chest and blasted
a volley past Antonioli. Di Francesco headed in Assuncao's free kick.
Awful match. Montella was abysmal and needs to start scoring soon.
Fabio Junior, the World's most expensive substitute, has no visible
qualities, why Roma signed him remains a mystery.

Red Card(s) : Diawara 92 (Torino)
Attendance : 45,000
