SERIE A ROUND 9

WHAT A SAVE!

Crisis for Inter who suffer their 3rd defeat in 4 games to a Signori
inspired Bologna. Neighbours Milan maintain their title challenge with
victory over Venezia and there are comfortable four goal victories for
both Rome clubs. A horrid Turin derby ends goal-less.

6 NOVEMEBER 1999

PERUGIA 1-2 BARI
Ba 74 Andersson 42
							Masinga 58

Andersson headed in from a corner and Masinga made it 2-0 when he was left
with an easy finish from Materazzi's hospital pass. Ba pulled a goal back
from a goalmouth scramble.

Gaucci, Perugia's president, made a huge fuss after the match and had to be
restrained from boadring the Bari coach. I think the drama was over an
incident in the match where a Perugia player was hospitalised after eating
an elbow in the face.

Attendance : 10,000
Red Card(s) : Materazzi 92 (Perugia)

CAGLIARI 1-1 FIORENTINA
Mboma 54 (Pen) Di Livio 10

Di Livio's shot took a deflection off Grassadonia past Scarpi. O'Neill stung
Toldo's palms with a free kick and released Mayele with an outrageous pass
with the outside of his foot, it came to nothing but was one hell of a pass!
Balbo cracked a shot against the crossbar from 30yds, he's looked far more
menacing than Batistuta in recent weeks. Macellari won a penalty when
Bressan 'fouled' him outside the box. Mboma converted. Batistuta shot wide
from a free kick, Balbo took the next free kick and forced Scarpi into a
save. Mboma bulldozed his way through the Fiorentina defence on a couple
of occasions but lack of composure let him down. Cagliari need to start
turning draws into wins if they are to remain in Serie B. Fiorentina better
enjoy their Champions league adventure while they can because on current
form they haven't a prayer of qualifying for next season's competition.

7 NOVEMBER 1999

BOLOGNA 3-0 INTER
Andersson 36, 68
Signori 76

Andersson beat Peruzzi with a beautifully placed low header from Signori's
cross and the two combined for Bologna's second, another header.
Ronaldo was booked for diving. Sousa should have booked for a late foul on
Ze Elias. Inter should have been awarded a penalty when Paramatti nearly
decapitated Zamorano as he attempted to head Ronaldo's cross, the Brazilians
only worthwhile contribution in the match. Marocchi picked out Andersson
with a glorious long pass, he chested it down, brushed aside Domoraud and
blasted a shot goalwards but Peruzzi saved superbly. Andersson had earlier
struck the post in the first half with a similar effort. Signori pressed
Domoraud into a mistake, the Frenchman ran towards Ferron (on for the
injured Peruzzi), Ferron kicked the ball, it cannoned off Domoraud, he
fell and Signori was left to tap in to an empty net.

Inter were a mess. Ronaldo looked lethargic. The workrate that was a
feature of Inter's game in the first few weeks of the season has deserted
them in fact it was Bologna's workrate that won the match. They tackled
hard and ran hard all match. Signori in particular worked like a dog,
incredibly more so than Zamorano. Andersson and Bologna were made for
each other.

Attendance : 35,626

LAZIO 4-0 VERONA
Veron 17
Salas 22
Negro 45
Boksic 63

After causing havoc from 2 corners, Veron curled one in and I'm sure he
meant it. Another wicked corner from Veron left Salas with an easy header.
Mihajlovic smashed a free kick against the post. Negro headed in Veron's
cross. Boksic smashed in Lazio's fourth from a tight angle. Mancini headed
inches wide. Marchegiani made a great save to deny Spehar and he missed a
good chance later in the match. Veron is the best player in Europe. Lazio
are playing scary football.

Attendance : 45,000

LECCE 1-0 UDINESE
Lucarelli 53

Lucarelli scored three minutes after coming on as a sub, he flattened Zanchi
and then turning in Sesa's centre. Turci kept out shots from Sesa and Lima.
Turci came up for a corner, Chimenti made a great save to deny Sottil and
as Turci raced back towards goal Lima was gifted the ball with an open goal
gaping but as he shot the ball slowed down in the heavy turf and Turci got
back to clear. Udinese looked to have claims for a penalty after Bertotto
was scythed down in the box. Didn't see a replay.

I'm not sure what happened to Lucarelli at Valencia but he has been
outstanding for Lecce with 5 goals so far.

Attendance : 12,030

MILAN 3-0 VENEZIA
Bierhoff 56
Weah 67
Orlandini 77

Shevchenko flashed a shot wide, Bierhoff headed over with the goal gaping.
Weah came on for Leonardo. Shevchenko and Weah flicked on headers for
Bierhoff to poke in from close range. Shevchenko and Weah were quick to
punish some confusion in the Venezia defence, Weah rounding the 'keeper to
score Milan's second. Shevchenko ran onto a long ball, rode two tackles,
rounded the 'keeper and went down as the 'keeper touched his leg. Casazza
was sent off, Bilica pulled on the 'keepers jersey and saved Shevchenko's
spot kick, Boban sent the rebound goalwards, Bilica punched the ball out,
Weah missed but Orlandini finally finished.

Red Card(s) : Casazza 75 (Venezia)
Attendance : 50,000

PIACENZA 1-2 PARMA
Di Napoli 46 (Pen) Crespo 21
							Boghossian 31

Crespo gave Parma the lead with a miss-hit shot (the amount of times I've
wrote miss hit shit is incredible!) from Fuser's cross and another miss hit
shot from Fuser was turned in by Boghossian who is playing as well as he
did for Sampdoria two seasons ago. Cannavaro made a idiotic lunge at
Di Napoli in the box, the journeyman striker converted the penalty.

Attendance : 12,000

REGGINA 0-4 ROMA
							Oshadogan 5 (og)
							Montella 28 (Pen)
							Fabio Junior 39
							Totti 45 (Pen)

Oshadogan, on loan from Roma, headed into his own net from a corner. Bernin
latched onto Candela's shorts as he ran into the box and stupidly refused
to let go, good job Candela has the drawstrings tightened. Montella
converted. An outrageous pass from Totti gifted the World's most expensive
substitute tm Fabio Junior a goal. Totti won and converted a penalty.
I think Zanetti was sent off for verbal abuse. Oshadogan was sent off
for hacking Montella. Bartlett had Roma's best chance in the second half.
Roma lead 4-0 at half time and don't add to their tally in the second
half, typical Capello.

Attendance : 25,500
Red Card(s) : C Zanetti 52 (Roma), Oshadogan 72 (Reggina)

TORINO 0-0 JUVENTUS

Inzaghi headed wide in the first half and the only other notable goalmouth
incident came in the second half as Inzaghi and Del Piero got in each
others way when going for a ball. Lots of fouls. Davids was sent off for
a foul on Asta, shame because he had a good match. Lentini was sent off
for diving. Awful, awful match. A definite candidate for worst match of
the year.

Attendance : 55,000
Red Card(s) : Davids 88 (Juventus), Lentini 91 (Torino)
