PSV 1 (Lazovic 36)
LIVERPOOL 3 (Babel 45, Riera 68, N'Gog 77)

A PSV corner smacked a player in the face, the ball deflected off Mascherano and Lazovic beat the extremely suspect Cavalieri at his near post with a poor shot. Babel headed in a half time equaliser from a Lucas free kick. Riera put the Premier League leaders in front with a sudden, explosive left foot shot from 30 yards. Flop of the season Keane's superb pass sent Egg Nog away on the break to score Liverpool's third.

PSV are shite. It's hard to believe this club were minutes away from a final under Hiddink only a few seasons ago.

Attendance : 35,000
Assists : n/a, Lucas (fk), Lucas, Keane

26 November 2008

ATLETICO MADRID 2 (Simao 14, Maxi Rodriguez 28)
PSV 1 (Koevermans 47)

Simao miss-hit a shot from a throw in, Salcido gave him another chance with an insane back heel and this time he didn't miss. Maxi Rodriguez whacked in the second following another deflection off a PSV player from a set piece and the roles were reversed when Koevermans pulled a goal back at the start of the second half.

Someone needs to explain to me how a match behind closed doors is punishment? Surely it would make sense to punish teams that break UEFA rules by making them play their games at the opposition ground?

LIVERPOOL 1 (Gerrard 23)
MARSEILLE 0

Attendance : 40,024
Assists : Xabi Alonso

4 November 2008

LIVERPOOL 1 (Gerrard 95 Pen)
ATLETICO MADRID 1 (Maxi Rodriguez 37)

Heitinga hit a longball out of defence to Antonio Lopez, Maxi Rodriguez touched his centre past Carragher, who has looked very shaky this season, then lashed a right foot shot into the bottom left corner. Having told a friend over the phone Liverpool were losing but would score a last minute equaliser no guesses for what happened next. In the fifth minute of injury time as Pernia tried to head out a cross Gerrard jumped into him, landed on his knees and rolled to his back with his arms outstretched appealing for a penalty. CHEATING BASTARD.

Torres's girlfriend - disappointing in fact not just disappointing but with a worryingly square jaw. I think I'll have to write another letter to UEFA over their officiating of Liverpool matches.

Attendance : 42,010
Assists : Lopez, Gerrard (won pen)

MARSEILLE 3 (Kone 30, Niang 63, Niang 71)
PSV 0

Marseille broke at lightning pace after PSV lost possession in their own half, Ben Arfa released midget Kone with a ball straight down the middle and he smoked Addo before rounding Isaksson and chipping into an empty net. Niang scored the first of his two goals with a superb left foot volley at he back post, Kone providing the cross. Ben Arfa played an absolutely marvellous pas through the heart of the slow, lumbering PSV defence and Niang ran into the box before poking wide of Isaksson.

High offside traps never work against pace.

Attendance : 40,000
Assists : Ben Arfa, Kone, Ben Arfa

22 October 2008

ATLETICO MADRID 1 (Simao 83)
LIVERPOOL 1 (Keane 14)

Pongolle intercepted a Xavi Alonso through ball but a heavy touch allowed Alonso to reclaim possession, he gave it to Gerrard and he rolled it between the centre backs to Keane who ran clear to score amid appeals for offside. Liverpool were surprisingly caught out by a longball over the top. Carragher lacked the pace to beat Forlan to the bounce and the Uruguayan took the ball down brilliantly, checked outside Carragher and Arbeloa then centred for long-term Liverpool target Simao to equalise.

Attendance : 44,500
Assists : Gerrard, Forlan

PSV 2 (Koevermans 71, Koevermans 85)
MARSEILLE 0

In this battle for a UEFA Cup spot two headers from Danny Koevermans put the Dutch in the driving seat.

Attendance : 30,000
Assists : Wuytens, Mendez

1 October 2008

LIVERPOOL 3 (Kuyt 5, Keane 34, Gerrard 76)
PSV 1 (Koevermans 78)

PSV folded after conceding an early goal just as they did in their opening defeat against Atletico Madrid. Isaksson made a reflex save with his feet to deny Torres a certain goal, Kuyt followed up with a low drive straight at the former Man City goalkeeper who shinned the ball into his own net. Keane was robbed of a stone wall penalty, ironically one of the few penalties Liverpool should have been awarded in recent YEARS. The Irishman broke his duck with a close range volley following tremendous work by Kuyt and Torres down the right. The Spaniard, who has returned to his Atletico Madrid form, missed a hat-trick of chances. Keane touched on a free kick for Gerrard to thunder home his 100th Liverpool goal. Skrtel appeared to turn a cross into his own net but for some reason the goal has been credited to Koevermans.

Attendance : 41,097
Assists : n/a, Torres, Keane (fk)

ATLETICO MADRID 2 (Aguero 4, Raul Garcia 22)
MARSEILLE 1 (Niang 16)

Aguero gave Atletico Madrid an early lead with a predatory piece of finishing. With an instant first touch he brought a high ball under control, a drop of the shoulder took him inside El Erbate and he stepped away from a tackle before shooting past Mandanda. Bonnart smoked Pernia to chase down a Ben Arfa through ball and his high cross into the box was met by the muscularly built Niang. Taiwo chopped down Aguero wide on the left. Raul Garcia flicked Pernia's low, driven free kick past Mandanda to restore Atletico's lead. Chances flashed wide of either goalpost. This looked to be a great game.

Attendance : 43,290
Assists : Maxi Rodriguez, Bonnart, Pernia (fk)

16 September 2008

PSV 0
ATLETICO MADRID 3 (Aguero 9, Aguero 36, Maniche 54)

Maniche was clobbered on the edge of the box as he played a pass out wide to Luis Garcia and Aguero tapped in his centre to open his Champions League account. Another former Liverpool player made the second, Sinama-Pongolle's strong run ended with Aguero collected the Frenchman's centre and sweeping a left foot shot past Isaksson. A svelte looking Maniche scored the goal of the night. Simao stripped the ball off Mendes deep in the PSV half before passing out wide to Luis Garcia just as Maniche burst past PSV's centre back Luis Garcia slipped a ball through another defenders legs and the Portuguese midfielder shot first time over Isaksson to complete an impressive victory.

Attendance : 28,000
Assists : Luis Garcia, Sinama-Pongolle, Luis Garcia

MARSEILLE 1 (Cana 23)
LIVERPOOL 2 (Gerrard 26, Gerrard 32 Pen)

A magnificent pass on the turn by Benoit Cheyrou sent Cana clear of the Liverpool defence and he kept his nerve to shoot wide of Reina. As usual Gerrard came to Liverpool's rescue. He equalised with an incredible first time shot from the edge of the box then converted a twice taken penalty.

Attendance : 45,000
Assists : Cheyrou, Kuyt, Babel (won pen)
