finished first but were stripped of both titles and relegated to Serie B in 2006 for their role in the Calciopoli scandal. Buffon made his debut aged 17 against Milan and shut out an attack that went on to win the championship that season. He had already established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the World by the time he joined Juventus six years later for £32.60 million (€46.50) still a World record fee for a goalkeeper. Buffon missed the first half of the 2005-2006 season with a shoulder injury and after a several poor performances on his return recovered his form just in time to star for Italy in the 2006 World Cup. He was only beaten once from open play (an own goal) and in the final by Zidane from the penalty spot. Ironically he didn't save a penalty in the shoot-out but Juventus team-mate David Trezeguet's miss handed Italy the Jules Rimet trophy. Key attribute : Shot stopping |
