This local hero was part of Napoli's brilliant Maradona inspired team of the 80's.
He went on to enjoy more success at Juventus and formed the best central defensive
pairing in Serie A alongside Uruguayan leg breaker Paolo Montero. Particularly
impressive in the 1996-1997 season Ferrara never quite managed to match his
performances at club level for the national team. Struggled to regain form following
a serious knee injury in 1998.

Ferrara was a right back early in his career before being switched to the centre of
defence by Juventus coach Marcello Lippi, the two had worked together at Napoli
in the 1993-1994 season.

Probably would have gained more attention outside of Italy had it not been for Inter's
Giuseppe Bergomi who blocked his route into the national team.
