1 Juventus finished first but were stripped of both titles and relegated to Serie B
in 2006 for their role in the Calciopoli scandal.

Thuram quickly established himself as the best defender in the World shortly after
joining Parma. His partnership alongside Desailly, Blanc and Lizarazu in front of
Barthez in goal was the platform from which France won the 1998 World Cup and
European Championship two years later. Ironically his only ever goals for France
were scored in the World Cup semi-final against Croatia, in a 2-1 victory.

Thuram won his first major domestic honours after leaving Parma for Juventus for a
then world record fee for a defender (£23.5 million).

Following meetings with FIFA in 2006, new measures to combat racism in football
were drafted.
