MILAN 3-2 SCHALKE

Pirlo gave Milan the lead with the most fantastic of free kicks about six miles away from goal. Not for the first time the Milan defence pissed away their advantage, the giant Dane Poulsen climbed above Nesta to head in Lincoln's free kick. Kaka' restored Milan's lead after Shevchenko initiated a break. He carried the ball 50 yards, rode two tackles and passed to Kaka' who shot through Rodriguez's legs into the bottom left corner. A mistake by Krstajic left the Schalke defence 4 on 4, Inzaghi gave Shevchenko an absolute gift of an open goal but he sliced his shot horribly, Kaka' jumped on the loose ball, danced past two players and fired in his second. The ref, Gonzalez, the same ****** in charge of the Champions League final, gave Schalke a free kick for no good reason. Shevchenko charged down Bordon's free kick only for Serginho to give the ball straight to Lincoln, he tried his luck from the edge of the box and Shevchenko sliced the ball past Dida.

Assists : Kaka' (won fk), Lincoln (fk), Shevchenko, Shevchenko, n/a

FENERBAHCE 0-4 MILAN

Seedorf intercepted a lazy pass from Anelka and threaded a ball 50 yards through the Fenerbahce defence, Shevchenko raced clear of Servet before tapping past Volkan. Shevchenko received the ball on the edge of the box with Umit standing in front of him, he cut inside the defender with his right foot before firing inside the post with his left. After wasting two chances to complete his hat-trick, Shevchenko tapped in Serginho's centre and become the second Milan player to score four goals in this competition and fifth overall (Van Basten, Simoni Inzaghi, Van Nistelrooy and Prso being the others) when Vieri, on for the disappointing Gilardino, held off two defenders before pulling the ball back across the face of goal.

Simic was deputising for the injured Cafu at right back, Serginho played at left back. They looked a lot more solid than Cafu, Stam and Kaladze have looked in the same positions.

Attendance : 51,200
Assists : Seedorf, Gilardino, Serginho, Vieri

SCHALKE 3-0 PSV

The first of Kobiashvili's penalties was awarded for handball, the second part stupidity by Sibon and part dive by Ernst. In between he tapped in after Lincoln was denied by the woodwork for a second time. As crap a hat-trick as you could possibly get but they all count.

SCHALKE 2-0 FENERBAHCE

Kuranyi helped on goalkick to Lincoln before made a beeline to the penalty area, Lincoln lobbed the ball into the box and Kuranyi leapt above a static Fabio to head into the corner. A stupid foul and Lincoln's theatrics earned Fabio a straight red. Aurelio got a second yellow for a studs up challenge on Kuranyi. Lincoln closed down Tuncay as he tried to clear and Sand headed the Brazilian's deflected cross past Volkan.

Attendance : 53,993
Red Cards : Fabio 40 (Fenerbahce), Aurelio 55 (Fenerbahce)

19 October 2005

FENERBAHCE 3-3 SCHALKE

Generally speaking matches between teams that don't know how to defend tend not to be high scoring affairs. This fortunately wasn't the case. Fabio headed Fenerbahce into the lead from a Serhan free kick. Nobrash wasted two great chances to increase Fener's lead in a half totally dominated by the visitors.

Lincoln got Schalke on level terms when he lashed in from close range after some horrid defending before starting the move which lead to the second goal with one of the most outstanding disguised passes you will ever see. With possession on the right flank he looked across the field to the left as he sent a pass through two defenders to Larsen, Larsen rolled the ball back and Lincoln tapped into the bottom corner. Nobrash headed in the equaliser after holding down Poulsen as he attacked a high ball. Kobiashvili hit a long ball forward, Fenerbahce's goalkeeper Volkan came off his line and kicked free air leaving Kuranyi with an open goal prompting the Austrian commentator to say Mein Got, indeed. Despite having some enormous players Schalke once again failed to adequately clear a high ball into the box. Appiah brought the ball under control with his left foot then struck a dipping hall volley into the top corner with his right. Both teams were guilty of some spectacular dives and Kobiashvili succeeded in getting Alex a second yellow after Rafinha conned the referee into giving him a first half booking. When he sits out the next match someone please tell him to get his ****ing haircut, he looks ridiculous.

Attendance : 50,000
Assists : Serhan (fk), n/a, Larsen, Tuncay, Kobiashvili, n/a

SCHALKE 2-2 MILAN

Seedorf traded passes with Kaladze and Kaka' before trying his luck from 30 yards, now the shot was on target and firmly struck but Rost should have saved instead of letting the ball slip through his fingers. Schalke managed to pin Milan in their own half for the next three minutes and were rewarded with an equaliser following awful defending from a free kick. After a series of flick-ons Cafu and Kaladze got in each others way allowing Lincoln in, his cross deflected off Nesta and Larsen headed into the net. Maldini was in an advanced position as Milan were attacking a free kick. After Schalke cleared Maldini played a one-two with Kaladze before turning a defender on the edge of the box and hitting a teasing cross into the box which Shevchenko emphatically headed past Rost. Milan were looking good for a point until Altintop came off the bench and hit an amazing shot from 30 yards which curled into the bottom corner.

Given the 'quality' of Milan's defending so far this season I see them getting KO'ed at the quarter-finals or if they get an easy draw the semi's.

Attendance : 53,425
Assists : Kaka', n/a, Maldini, Lincoln

FENERBAHCE 3-0 PSV

Vennegoor of Hesselink gave away a penalty with a mindless handball and after Alex converted lost possession in midfield to Selcuk then pulled him back earning a second yellow in the space of four minutes. Alex started and finished the move which gave Fenerbahce a brilliant second goal. With his back to play he headed forward a cross before hitting a fantastic left foot volley on the turn 30 yards upfield to Anelka, Anelka waited for Alex to burst into the box before crossing and the tiny Brazilian headed into the corner. He capped off a fantastic performance with a magnificent assist for the third goal. Appiah intercepted a clearance and Alex controlled the ball with the outside of the heal of his left foot, had a quick look to see where Appiah was and hit a back heel THROUGH three defenders, Anelka dummied and Appiah poked into the bottom corner.

Attendance : 49,500
Red Card : Vennegoor of Hesselink 45 (PSV)
Assists : n/a, Anelka, Alex

MILAN 3-1 FENERBAHCE

Shevchenko 89Pirlo back-heeled a pass from Ambrosini to Kaka', his first touch took him away from a defender and he rifled the ball into the bottom corner. Alex equalised from the spot after Anelka made the most of a stupid challenge by Gattuso. Kaka' scored a fabulous second goal on a counter attack. Ambrosini won the ball on the edge of his box before swapping passes with Gilardino, he carried the ball to the half way line and threaded a pass through to Kaka', he muscled his way past one defender, skipped the challenge of another and with a subtle feint went past a third on the edge of the box before shooting inside a post. Shevchenko tapped in a third after Volkan punched out a Serginho cross.

Attendance : 35,000
Assists : Pirlo, Anelka (won pen), Ambrosini, n/a
