STANDARD LIEGE 1 (Bolat 95)
AZ ALKMAAR 1 (Lens 42)

Dutch striker Lens met Pocognoli's cross with a spectacular mid-air flick volley. Standard's Turkish goalkeeper Bolat scored a devastating last second equaliser that knocked the Dutch champions out of Europe, meeting Nicaise's free kick with a superb header.

Attendance : 28,000
Assist : Pocognoli, Nicaise'

24 November 2009

ARSENAL 2 (Nasri 35, Denilson 42)
STANDARD LIEGE 0

Vermaelen hit a longball out of defence, Mulemo slipped as he positioned himself to make a clearance and Nasri lobbed wide of Bolat. Shortly after Gallas fouled Goreux in the box Denilson tried his luck from distance, Bolat jumped and should have pushed the ball out for a corner but instead put it into his own net.

Attendance : 59,941
Red Card : Carcela-Gonzalez 57 (Standard Liege)
Assists : Vermaelen, Gibbs

BARCELONA 2 (Pique 10, Pedro Rodriguez 26)
INTER 0

Henry flicked on a corner, with his hand (not really) and Pique brushed aside Motta to plunder a goal at the back post. Barca's second goal would have been great had Pedro not miss-hit a volley and Julio Cesar not made a complete arse of himself with a comedy save.

Barca - go through with a win. Could go out IF Dynamo beat them by 2 clear goals and Rubin Kazan beat Inter. If Barca finish level of points with Inter their superior head to head will take them through

Inter - have to beat Rubin Kazan to go through. A goal-less draw would be enough, any draw above 1-1 e.g. 2-2 or 3-3 would sent Rubin Kazan through on away goals

Rubin Kazan - Go through with a win, see above

Dynamo Kyiv - Have to beat Barca, any margin will do IF Inter and Rubin draw otherwise they will have to beat Barca by 2 clear goals

Attendance : 95,000
Assists : Henry, Alves

4 November 2009

ARSENAL 4 (Fabregas 26, Nasri 43, Fabregas 52, Diaby 72)
AZ ALKMAAR 1 (Lens 82)

Romero was beaten at his near post by a tame Fabregas effort. Arshavin played in the injury prone Nasri for the second, an excellent dummy took out his marker leaving him to pick his spot. Arsenal countered after the Dutch Champions lost possession from a throw-in, Fabregas finished Arshavin's pass emphatically. Diaby completed the rout for the flat track bullies following another counter attack. Lens beat a poorly positioned Almunia to score a consolation goal.

Arsenal are through (more or less) to the last 16 where they will finally face some decent opposition because they can't draw whichever Mickey Mouse team finishes behind them in second place. This group has been an absolute f*cking joke.

Attendance : 59,345
Assists : Gallas, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin,

STANDARD LIEGE 2 (Mbokani 31, Jovanovic 88)
OLYMPIAKOS 0

Attendance : 28,925
Assists : Mangala, n/a

20 October 2009

AZ ALKMAAR 1 (Mendes 93)
ARSENAL 1 (Fabregas 36)

Centre back Schaars heavy first touch presented Arshavin with the ball, he passed to RVP who made an overlapping run and Fabregas tapped in the Dutchman's centre at the back post. Pelle headed on a longball in a packed penalty area and Mendes smashed a right foot volley into the roof of the net.

Attendance : 16,000
Assists : RVP, Pelle

OLYMPIAKOS 2 (Mitroglou 43, Stoltidis 93)
STANDARD LIEGE 1 (De Camargo 37)

De Camargo finished off an excellent move from a throw-in, steering Jovanovi's pass wide of Antonios 'George' Nikopolidis. Mitroglou headed in the equaliser from a free kick. Having withstood a second half onslaught the Belgian's finally crumbled from an injury time corner.

Attendance : 33,000
Assists : Jovanovic, Galletti (fk), Dudu

29 September 2009

ARSENAL 2 (Van Persie 78, Arshavin 86)
OLYMPIAKOS 0

Van Persie succeeded where he had failed against Adebayor when he chopped down Zewlakow with a terrible sliding tackle as the defender tried to shepherd a ball out of play. He was lucky to get only a yellow card. He tapped Arsenal into the lead from an Eduardo centre. Arshavin scored what was a carbon copy second, starting and finishing a move with back heels though he was standing in an offside position when he scored.

Attendance : 59,884
Assists : Eduardo, Fabregas

AZ ALKMAAR 1 (El Hamdaoui 48)
STANDARD LIEGE 1 (Traore 91)

The Dutch champions scored a beautifully constructed goal. Martins played a ball from the centre circle to Dembele and he held up the ball before laying off to Holman, El Hamdaoui turned onto the Australian's fantastic disguised pass but miss-kicked his shot however Standard's goalkeeper Bolat was standing miles of his line and watched in agony as El Hamdaoui's shot tricked into the net. Standard goalkeeper Bolat launched a longball into the AZ box, the Dutch failed to clear and Traore smashed the ball over Romero at the back post.

Attendance : 16,373
Assists : Holman, Witsel

Attendance : 32,581

STANDARD LIEGE 2 (Mangala 2, Jovanovic 5 Pen)
ARSENAL 3 (Bendtner 45, Vermaelen 77, Eduardo 81)

Eduardo lost possession deep in his own half when trying to break from a Liege corner, Mangala was the first to react, turning onto the ball and beating the inexperienced Mannone at his near post. A ridiculous penalty decision gave Arsenal a mountain to climb. Bendtner's late first half goal, following a typically rangy run by Diaby, gave the Gunners a lifeline. Vermaelen scrambled in the equaliser amid calls for handball against Song and four minutes later Eduardo made up for his early mistake by using his knee to convert a Fabregas corner.

Attendance : 58,100
Assists : n/a, Jovanovic (won pen), Diaby, Song, Fabregas
