Phase 2
UEFA Cup

31 OCTOBER 2001

FEYENOORD 2-1 SPARTAK MOSCOW
Tomasson 5 Beschastnykh 14
Elmander 18

A swift passing move around the edge of the box between Bosvelt, Elmander
and Emerton ended with Tomasson turning in Emerton's centre. Tsykhmeistruk's
shot cannoned off Collen, Beschastnykh turned and fired the ball into the bottom
corner. Midget Mjavanadze wasn't tall enough to head clear Paauwe's cross leaving
Elmander with an easy finish.

Assists : Emerton, Paauwe

SPARTA PRAGUE 0-1 BAYERN MUNICH
							Novotny 40 (og)

Sparta's unbeaten record was ended by an own goal. Tarnat launched a cross
into the box, Novotny beat Zickler to the ball but unfortunately headed past his
own 'keeper.

23 OCTOBER 2001

BAYERN MUNICH 3-1 FEYENOORD
Kuffour 12 Elmander 25
Santa Cruz 30, 91

The opening goal was credited to Kuffour but it was Van Gobbel who deflected
the Ghanaian's header past his own 'keeper. Elmander showed great strength to
hold off Kuffour and equalise but Bayern soon regained their lead when Santa
Cruz tapped in. Santa Cruz bagged a second on the counter attack.

Assists : Sergio, Salihamidzic

SPARTAK MOSCOW 2-2 SPARTA PRAGUE
Robson 4 Holub 29
Beschastnykh 34 Babnic 93

Robson tapped in Titov's centre. Holub coolly put away a rebound after
Levotsky dropped Jarosic's blistering drive. Spartak soon regained the lead.
Titov (I wish he played for a bigger club) caught a defender trying to clear
the ball and passed to Beschastnykh who finished emphatically. Spartak blew
several chances to clear a cross and Babnic headed in from close range.

Assists : Titov (x2), Jarosik

17 OCTOBER 2001

BAYERN MUNICH 5-1 SPARTAK MOSCOW
Pizarro 7, 22 Beschastnykh 58
Elber 33, 52

Pizarro scored both his goals from right wing crosses the first a left foot
strike from Elber's cross and the second a deflected header from Sagnol's
cross. Spartak were really screwed on the third goal. Elber and Pizarro were
standing offside when the ball was played to Salihamidzic (who wasn't
offside) however both forwards continued their run and Elber scored from
Salihamidzic's centre. A superb move involving Fink and Salihamidzic set-up
Elber's second. Pizarro and Kuffour went up for Robson's cross, the ball came
off Kuffour and Beschastnykh was left with a tap-in. Salihamidzic and Fink
were also involved in Bayern's fifth.

Assists : Elber, Salihamidzic (x2), Fink

FEYENOORD 0-2 SPARTA PRAGUE
							Jarosik 43
							Novotny 78

Both Sparta's goal came from free kicks. Jarosik via a deflection and
Novotny with header from Micelik's free kick.

Assist : Micelik

10 OCTOBER 2001

FEYENOORD 2-2 BAYERN MUNICH
Van Hooijdonk 38 Elber 13, 50
Tomasson 46

Feyenoord didn't make a good job of clearing a Bayern free kick. Thiam
miss-kicked, the ball fell to Elber and his shot deflected in off a defender.
Kahn let Van Hooijdonk's volley slip under his hands and on the stroke
of half time Tomasson gave Feyenoord the lead. Van Hooijdonk headed
down a long ball, Tomasson controlled the ball on his chest before
volleying inside the post. Elber rescued a point with another tremendous
first time strike.

Assists : Emerton, Pizzaro

SPARTA PRAGUE 2-0 SPARTAK MOSCOW
Kincl 57
Sionko 88

Kincl squeezed in a rebound after Levitsky had saved his initial shot and terrible
defending allowed Sionko to score an easy second.

"I am very satisfied with our performance. Spartak were dangerous and had two
good chances to score but we defended very well. We deserved to win the match
and the first goal was the most important moment in the game."
Sparta Prague coach Jaroslav Hrebík

25 SEPTEMBER 2001

SPARTA PRAGUE 4-0 FEYENOORD
Hartig 24
Labant 38 (Pen)
Kincl 71
Michalik 74

Van Gastel tried to shepard the ball back to his keeper, Jarosik stuck out a
foot and managed to poke the ball to Hartig (who was offside) and flatten
Van Gastel in the process, 1-0. Van Gobbel pushed Sionko in the box, penalty.
Labant just managed to score despite Zoetebier's touch. Kincl was given the
freedom of the pitch due to Feyenoord's 50yd offside trap and calmly beat
Zoetebier. Kincl headed on a cross, Jarosik rolled the ball to the edge of
the box and Michalik banged a left foot shot past Zoetebier.

Assists : Jaorsik (x2), Sionko, Michalik

SPARTAK MOSCOW 1-3 BAYERN MUNICH
Baranov 64 Salihamidzic 16
							Elber 41, 74

Salihamidzic headed in Thiam's cross. Spartak hit the crossbar twice. Elber
scored an early contender for goal of the season. Santa Cruz helped on Kahn's
goal kick, Elber controlled the ball with his shoulder, turned and smashed a
35yd rising, curling volley into the net. Spartak scored from a free kick
when Baranov managed to find a gap in Bayern's wall. Kabanov decided to jump
over Salihamidzic's cross, the ball fell straight to Elber's right foot, 1-3

Assists : Thiam, Santa Cruz, Salihamidzic

18 SEPTEMBER 2001

BAYERN MUNICH 0-0 SPARTA PRAGUE

The only thing I notcied in this match was that Scholl and Jeremies were in the
stands dressed like bums.

SPARTAK MOSCOW 2-2 FEYENOORD
Robson 62 Bosvelt 12
Beschastnykh 69 Tomasson 59

Bosvelt opened the scoring with a superb left foot drive. The Spartak defence tried
to play offside on the half way line with suicidal results - Tomasson scored at the
second attempt despite Kabanov's brilliant initial save. Bestschastnykh's clever
back heel totally confused the Feynoord defence and Robson was left with an
easy run on goal. Feyenoord were punished for attempting to play offside from
a free kick.

Feyenoord were camped in their own half for the majority of the match. Spartak
should have won comfortably.

Assists : Beschastnykh, Ananko
