Phase Two
UEFA Cup

12 NOVEMBER 2002

ARSENAL 0-0 PSV

Jeffers blew two 100% chances, heading wide a cross and shooting straight
at Wattereus when one vs one against him. Toure was harshly sent off when
he clipped Rommedahl as he burst down the right flank. Kezman wasted
PSV's best chance. Wiltord missed an open goal late in the first half.

Red Card : Toure 35 (Arsenal)

AUXERRE 1-0 DORTMUND
Benjani 76

Bejani ran onto a throw in and straight into Koller and Frings, they got
in each others way, Benjani ripped the ball off Koller and squeezed it
inside the post.

30 OCTOBER 2002

DORTMUND 2-1 ARSENAL
Rosicky 38, 63 Pen Henry 18

Ricken and Koller missed sitters before Arsenal took the lead with a brilliant
free kick by Henry. Wiltord should have been sent off for a ridiculous flying
tackle on Koller. From the resulting free kick Gilberto Silva deflected Rosicky's
shot past Seamen, Seaman beaten by another Brazilian. Koller ran onto a
Rosicky through pass and flew 20ft in the air over Seaman to win a penalty,
one of the most blatant dives ever. Rosicky converted.

Four in a row for Arsenal, four losses that it. Well done Wenger, unbeaten all
season my arse. Both teams are through to phase two. First and second place
are still up for grabs.

Assists : Ljungberg (won fk), Koller (won pen)

PSV 3-0 AUXERRE
Bruggink 34
Rommedahl 48
Robben 64

The referee effectively handed the match to PSV with a ridiculous red card for
Mexes following a nothing challenge on Robben. Boumsong sent Kezman's
cross straight to Bruggink and he stroked the ball into the corner. Rommedahl
tapped in a second from a superb Kezman cross. Kapo was then sent off for
apparently fouling Hofland. Robben played a one-two with Kezman
before sweeping the ball into the corner.

This has to be THE worst display of refereeing I have ever seen. Knud Erik Fisker
is as big a crook as Moreno.

Assists : Kezman (x2)
Red Card : Mexes 26 (Auxerre)

22 OCTOBER 2002

ARSENAL 1-2 AUXERRE
Kanu 52 Kapo 8
						Fadiga 26

Laucher lobbed a ball to Kapo from a throw-in, the powerfully built youngster
turned and nutmegged Vieira before unleashing a missile into the bottom
corner of the net. Cole tackled Boumsong as he bore down on goal, the ball
ballooned up in the air and Fadiga pounced as Seaman froze, superbly
volleying over the much maligned, and richly deserved most of it is I might
add, 'keeper. Kanu tapped in early in the second half from Henry's centre
but the fight back failed to materialise, indeed the visitors had the best
of the second half chances.

Assists : Laucher (throw-in), Henry

DORTMUND 1-1 PSV
Koller 9 Bruggink 47

Koller gave Dortmund a 9th minute lead with a header from Rosicky's free kick.
Koller and Evanilson wasted chances to put Dortmund out of sight. Bruggink
equalised with a super half volley. PSV survived a late scare when Koller
headed over after Wattereus saved from Amoroso.

Assists : Rosicky (fk), Rommedahl

2 OCTOBER 2002

AUXERRE 0-1 ARSENAL
						Gilberto Silva 48

Gilberto started and finished the move that gave Arsenal their second successive
away victory in this competition. Cole sent Toure down the left, Toure skinned
Radet before passing to Wiltord, Wiltord ran past Boumsong and laid the ball
for Gilberto and he hit a first time shot past Cool.

Assist : Wiltord

PSV 1-3 DORTMUND
Van der Schaf 73 Koller 21
						Rosicky 69
						Amoroso 91

Koller's opener was identical to the goal he scored against Auxerre the only
difference being this time it was Rosicky who mugged a defender before
giving the giant striker a gift. Rosicky latched onto a long ball out of
defence, used his pace to leave the PSV defence standing - running half the
length of the field before shooting past Wattereus. Van der Schaf gave PSV
hope with a superb 25yd strike. Amoroso finished off a counter attack and
ended PSV's interest in the competition.

Assists : Rosicky, Dede

25 SEPTEMBER 2002

DORTMUND 2-1 AUXERRE
Koller 6 Bejani 83
Amoroso 78

Heinrich closed down Radet as he tried to shepard a ball out of defence, Radet
panicked and kicked the ball against Heinrich and then stoopidly stood still
thinking the ball would roll out of play for a corner, Heirich ran round him
and passed to Koller who tapped into an empty net. Amoroso made it 2-0
from a Ricken pass. Fadiga launched a free kick into the box, Taino volleyed
against the post and Benjani tapped in the rebound.

Assists : Heinrich, Ricken

PSV 0-4 ARSENAL
						Gilberto 21 secs
						Ljungberg 66
						Henry 82, 91

Ljungberg latched onto a loose ball and passed wide to Henry, Henry blazed
down the left wing, rolled the ball to the back post and Gilberto poked
over Waterreus, all inside the first 21 seconds! Kezman wasted two glorious
chances to equalise. Ljungberg increased Arsenal's lead when timed his
run onto Ralph's through ball to perfection. Henry brushed aside Bogelund
to score Arsenal's third and added a fourth with a superb finish after
collecting a pass from Wiltord and racing clear of the PSV defence.

Arsenal finally, finally deliver away from home. If they get to the knock-out
stages it will be very difficult to stop them.

Assists : Henry, Lauren, Kanu, Wiltord

16 SEPTEMBER 2002

ARSENAL 2-0 DORTMUND
Bergkamp 62
Ljungberg 77

Bergkamp finally broke the deadlock with a deflected shot off Metzelder following
some great build-up play. Arsenal suckered Dortmund on the counter for a rapid
fire second. Seaman throw the ball out to Wiltord who raced downfield before
centring to Henry, Henry hit a beautiful first time ball into Ljungberg, he rounded
Lehman and tapped into an empty net.

Assist : Henry

AUXERRE 0-0 PSV

At this stage of the competition I won't comment on 0-0 draws unless
something special happens. It didn't. One of the teams had a goal
disallowed, or something.
