BENFICA 1 (Luisao 87)
SCHALKE 2 (Jurado 19, Howedes 81)

The continually impressive Jurado volleyed Schalke into an early lead. German centre back/DM Howedes tapped in the second as the Benfica defence pushed up for offside when poorly defending a corner. Brazil's giant centre back Luisao headed in Benfica's goal from a Javi Garcia set piece.

Attendance : 23,348
Assists : Raul, n/a, Javi Garcia (fk)

LYON 2 (Lisandro 62, Lacazette 88)
HAPOEL TEL AVIV 2 (Sahar 63, Zahavi 69)

A double deflection drew Enyeama off his line and Lisandro returned his awful clearance with interest. Chelsea reject Sahar ran clear of a poorly played offside trap to equalise. Zahavi scored a goal fit to grace any game in any stadium. Toama chipped a pass into the centre circle, Zahavi leapt in the air and connected with a textbook overhead kick, right footed into the top left corner. Even Van Basten would be proud of that one. Goal of the season. Another lucky deflection gave Lyon a last minute equaliser.

A win would have earned the bagel boys a place in the UEFA Cup. They deserve it on that goal. Schalke through in first place, Lyon in second and Benfica in the UEFA Cup.

Attendance : 32,245

24 November 2010

HAPOEL TEL AVIV 3 (Zahavi 24, Douglas 74, Zahavi 92)
BENFICA 0

Zahavi headed in Abutbul's free kick. Douglas punished woeful marking from a corner. Coentrao made a feeble attempt to cut out a through ball, bottling out of a sliding tackle which probably would have earned him a booking and Zahavi ran clear to score an injury time third.

SCHALKE 3 (Farfan 13, Huntelaar 20, Huntelaar 89)

Raul was tackled in the box by Diakhate, whose mistake had gifted him possession, the ball broke to Farfan and he tapped into the bottom left corner. Jurado's magnificent backheel released Klunge (ha ha), Raul stepped over his centre and THE HUNTER made it 2-0. He was credited with the third even though it was a blatant own goal.

BENFICA 4 (Kardec 20, Coentrao 32, Javi Garcia 42, Coentrao 67)
LYON 3 (Gourcuff 74, Gomis 85, Lovren 95)

Kardec headed Benfica into the lead from a Martins free kick. Lloris was at fault for the next two goals. He should have parried Coentrao's volley and, under pressure from Javi Garcia, flapped at a Martins corner - Martins completing a hat-trick of assists. He also made the fourth after springing a counter which the fantastic Coentrao finished with a lob over Lloris. Gourcuff began what proved to be a futile comeback with an excellent first time shot from Lacazette's centre. The once briefly lauded Gomis tapped in Lyon's second after Lacazette flicked on a Gourcuff corner. Benfica's goalkeeper also didn't cover himself in glory when he was caught out of his area as Gonalons sent a hail Mary ball into the box, Lovren headed into an empty net.

Briand struck a shot against the inside of the left post, Briand crossed to Lisandro, Gago made a stunning point blank save from the striker's back jarring header but Lisandro plundered the rebound.

SCHALKE 3 (Raul 3, Raul 58, Jurado 68)
HAPOEL TEL AVIV 1 (Schechter 93)

THE HUNTER nutmegged a Jurado through pass and his shadow assist opened up the Hapoel defence for Raul to give his new team an early lead. Raul scored his 70th European goal just before the hour mark, putting the finishing touch on a fine passing move involving Rakatic and Huntelaar. Jurado scored a fabulous third, an absolutely perfect curling shot which slammed in off the junction between the top right corner and right post. Schechter scored a late consolation goal for the Bagel Boys, he beat Neuer to a free kick and as he scored Neuer wrestled him to the ground, furious at not keeping a clean sheet. Had he done that earlier he would have been sent off.

Attendance : 50,900
Assists : Jurado, Rakitic, Rakitic, Toama (fk)

29 September 2010

HAPOEL TEL AVIV 1 (Enyeama 79 Pen)

Badir fouled Briand to concede the penalty. The Brazilian stepped into a half-cleared corner with an almighty left foot shot which tore into the roof of the net. Lovren got hold of Nunes' shirt and threw him to the ground, should have been a red card. Hapoel's goalkeeper beat his opposite number from the spot. Pjanic made sure of the points when he put away a rebound, via a deflection.
