ZILINA 1 (Majtan 48)
SPARTAK MOSCOW 2 (Alex 54, Ibson 61)

Spartak's 'keeper ran off his line as Jez swung in a free kick and flapped pathetically at the ball, Majtan headed into an empty net. Spartak broke for a Zilina corner, Drincic played a fabulous pass with the outside of his right foot 40 yards over the Zilina defence to Alex who raced clear to equalise. McGeady sparked another counter attack, Alex centred and Ibson turned the ball in at the far post. Ibson was sent off for going studs up into substitute Rilke.

23 November 2010

SPARTAK MOSCOW 0
MARSEILLE 3 (Valbuena 18, Remy 54, Brandao 68)

Valbuena scored with a great shot on the turn. Remy miss-hit when attempting a volley but collected his own rebound and took a more direct route to goal before scoring. Ayew ran for a loose ball and hard into a defender, as he lay sprawled on the pitch Brandao collected the ball and drilled a low shot into the bottom right corner.

Marseille have been excellent in the competition so far.

Attendance : 43,217
Red Card : Weilliton 63 (Spartak Moscow)
Assists : Heinze, Brandao, Ayew

CHELSEA 2 (Sturridge 51, Malouda 86)
MSK ZILINA 1 (Bello 19)

Bello played a one-two with Jez, who is not a scouser, as the name would suggest, ran into a big hole in the Chelsea defence and fired his team into a shock lead. Sturridge equalised with a great finish, nutmegging Zilina's 'keeper at his near post. Malouda volleyed in a close range winner after Drogba headed on a cross.

Ancelotti even managed to crack a smile at full time for the first time since Wilkins' dismissal.

Attendance : 40,266

3 November 2010

CHELSEA 4 (Anelka 49, Drogba 62 Pen, Ivanovic 66, Ivanovic 92)
SPARTAK MOSCOW 1 (Bazhenov 86)

Anelka combined with Kalou and broke the deadlock with a superb right foot shot from a tight angle. Drogba dusted himself down to convert the penalty. Ivanovic headed in the third from a Drogba free kick. The Chelsea defence switched off to allow Bazhenov to pull a goal back. Ivanovic fired in his second after a clearance ricocheted off Zhirkov.

Attendance : 40,477
Assists : Kalou, Drogba (won pen), Drogba (fk), Welliton, Zhirkov

ZILINA 0
MARSEILLE 7 (Gignac 12, Gignac 21, Heinze 24, Remy 36, Lucho 52, Gignac 54, Lucho 63)

Cheyrou swung in a free kick from the left, Gignac stuck out a foot and really it was no more than that, and the floodgates opened. Sourek attempted to cut out a Kabore through pass, Gignac rode the tackle and tapped in his second. Heinze made it 0-3 with a superb flick header. Sourek was also at fault for Marseille's fourth. Pecalka sliced a Cheyrou through pass, Sourek should have cleared but missed and Remy brought a miserable first half for the home side to an end.

Valbuena made the fifth with a wonderful cross with the outside of his tiny right foot. Gignac completed his hat-trick with a diving header. Lucho used his arm (well he is Argentinean) to control a pass before breaching Zilina's net for a seventh time.

I believe this was a record away victory.

Attendance : 9,600
Assists : Cheyrou (fk), Kaboure, Cheyrou (ck), n/a, Valbuena, Azpilicueta, Ayew

CHELSEA 2 (Zhirkov 23, Anelka 43)

Zhirkov strode onto Pareja's clearance and struck the ball with a spectacularly violent volley which flashed into the into the top right corner of Dikan's net. FANTASTIC goal and his first for Chelsea. Anelka beat Spartak's offside trap to Essien's through ball, turned inside a defender and slotted into the corner.

28 September 2010

CHELSEA 2 (Terry 7, Anelka 28 Pen)
MARSEILLE 0

Malouda swung a low corner into the box and Terry flicked past Mandanda at his near post. This was actually a good finish even if I don't want to admit it. Anelka nonchalantly despatched a penalty awarded for handball.

Attendance : 40,675
Assists : Malouda (ck), n/a

SPARTAK MOSCOW 3 (Ari 34, Ari 61, Ibson 89)
ZILINA 0

Ari's high looping header, from a corner, dropped under the crossbar. Shocking defending. Ari's second was a close range tap-in after the Zilina defence ball watched a centre from the left and the Muscovite's third goal was also made from the left (well they are Russian) - Maidana's cross volleyed home by Ibson.

Attendance : 37,000
Assists : Alex (ck), Kombarov, Maidana

ZILLNA 1 (Oravec 55)
CHELSEA 4 (Essien 12, Anelka 24, Anelka 28, Sturridge 48)

Essien blasted in the first after Malouda may or may not have flicked on an Anelka center. Malouda definitely gets the assist for Chelsea's second, a ball down the left which Anelka drilled into the corner. Terry headed a Malouda corner against the crossbar, even the woodwork thinks he's a complete bastard, and Anelka stabbed in his second. Benayoun, who had an excellent game prompting from midfield, sent Sturridge away on the break to make it 0-4. Cech gave the home side a consolation goal when he flapped at a cross.

Attendance : 11,200
Assists : Anelka, Malouda, n/a, Benayoun, n/a
