ARSENAL 3 (Van Persie 30 Pen, Walcott 73, Nasri 77)

As usual Van Persie went down very easily to win the penalty. Cleo equalised via a massive deflection of Squillaci. Walcott controlled a loose ball on his chest before dropping a half volley into the bottom left corner, nice finish. Song played a one-two with Bendtner, burst into the box, dribbled inside and out two players and looked to play another one-two, this time with Nasri who instead elected to shoot, 3-1 but having finished second a tough last 16 match awaits.

Attendance : 45,000
Red Card : Sagna 86 (Arsenal)
Assists : RVP (won pen), n/a, n/a, Song

SHAKHTAR DONETSK 2 (Rat 78, Adriano 83)

Srna overhit a cross and Rat arrived to volley the ball into the bottom right corner. Having scored the first Rat laid on the second for Adriano who was helped greatly by Teixeira standing offside in front of the 'keeper.

Braga take their fat goalkeeper and crap defence into the UEFA Cup.

Attendance : 50,000
Assists : Srna, Rat

BRAGA 2 (Mattheus 83, Mattheus 93)

Vela was booked for 'diving' in the box after Rodriguez took him out with an idiotic challenge. The ref was clearly aware of his reputation for being a dirty little cheat, either that or he confused him with Chamakh. Mattheus raced clear of a poorly played offside trap and whipped the ball over Fabianski. Denilson body checked Salino in midfield as the Portuguese broke from an Arsenal set piece, the ref waved played on, Mattheus ran from the half-way line, checked outside Gibbs, as he ran right, turned in the opposite direction away from Squillaci then steadied himself before crashing a shot in off the underside of the crossbar. Brilliant goal.

Losing to Chaka Khan is one thing but Braga? Braga need to thrash Chaka Khan in Donetsk to go though. Arsenal need a point. They'll probably go through in second place and with the exception of Lyon I don't fancy their chances against any of the likely first place finishers.

Attendance : 16,000

SHAKHTAR DONETSK 3 (Stepanenko 52, Jadson 59, Eduardo 68)

Chygrynskiy headed down a corner and Stepanenko lashed the ball in at the back post. Jadson slammed Srna's centre first time past Stojkovic. Eduardo briefly injured himself in scoring the third, when he collided with the 'keeper but he eventually got to his feet and was ok.

Attendance : 14,437
Assists : Chygrynskiy, Srna, Willian

BRAGA 1 (Moises 35)

Attendance : 29,348
Assist : Aguiar (fk)

SHAKTAR DONETSK 2 (Chygrynskiy 28, Eduardo 45)
ARSENAL 1 (Walcott 10)

The frail Walcott announced his latest comeback with a great counter attack goal. He ran 70 yards, left the Shakhtar defence in his wake and shot past Pyatov. Barca flop Chygrynskiy headed in the equaliser from a free kick via a deflection off Eastmond. Srna mugged Clichy on the right before centring for Eduardo to score his second successive goal against his former club and while he didn't seem too thrilled Srna was over the moon.

Attendance : 50,000
Assists : Wilshere, n/a, Srna

19 October 2010

ARSENAL 5 (Song 19, Nasri 42, Fabregas 60 Pen, Wilshire 66, Chamakh 69)

Pyatov caught the ball from an Arsenal corner, bounced it on the ground, dropped it as Djourou challenged him and Song stabbed into an empty net. Nasri showed neat footwork to smash in a deflected cross. Fabregas smashed in what was probably Arsenal's first legit penalty of the season. Wilshire finished off a fine passing move after collecting a Rosicky return pass. A sumptuous Nasri pass allowed Chamakh to put the rabbit killers five goals up. Eduardo, who was given a warm welcome on his return to the Emirates, scored a consolation goal.

Attendance : 60,016
Assists : n/a, n/a, Djourou (won pen), Rosicky, Nasri, Jadson

BRAGA 2 (Lima 35, Matheus 90)

Lima gave the Portuguese the lead with a brilliant 35 yard free kick. Alan intercepted a pass on his chest, angled a ball inside Partizan centre back Krastajic to Aguiar and Matheus tapped in his centre. Textbook counter attacking goal.

Attendance : 11,454
Assists : Lima (won fk), Aguiar

28 September 2010

PARTIZAN 1 (Cleo 33 Pen)
ARSENAL 3 (Arshavin 15, Chamakh 71, Squillaci 82)

Arshavin ran into traffic, Wilshire rescued the ball, played a back heal despite being manhandled and Arshavin drove a first time shot into the bottom left corner. Cleo equalised from the spot after Denilson handled. Chamakh dived to get Jovanovic sent off but Arshavin's penalty was saved. Not a case of justice being served as the home side were a man down. Chamakh headed a Rosicky cross against the bar then headed the rebound past Stojkovic. Squillaci headed in a Nasri corner. Fabianski saved a Cleo penalty.

Attendance : 29,348
Red Card : Jovanovic 56 (Partizan)
Assists : Wilshire, n/a, n/a, Nasri (ck)

SHAKHTAR DONETSK 3 (Luiz Adriano 56, Luiz Adriano 72, Costa 92 Pen)

Braga's fat goalkeeper Felipe fumbled a tame Luiz Adriano shot. The Brazilian's second was a carbon copy minus the goalkeeping blunder and Cesar floored Willian to concede the penalty.

Attendance : 12,083
Assists : Costa, Costa, Willian (won pen)

15 September 2010

ARSENAL 6 (Fabregas 9 Pen, Arshavin 30, Chamakh 34, Fabregas 53, Vela 69, Vela 84)

Chamakh was running wide on goal when Braga goalkeeper Felipe made an idiotic charge off his line, Chamakh couldn't resist going over and Fabregas despatched the penalty. Fabregas fed Arshavin for the second and Chamakh made it 3-0 from a Wilshire pass. FABREGAS headed in Arsenal's fourth and to further illustrate just how much Braga suck even the hopeless Vela managed to grab two goals.

For years I've wondered what is the point of Arsenal in the Champions League group stages given they invariably always get laughably easy opponents and it's obvious. To give their fans and coach a false sense of hope.

Attendance : 60,355
Assists : Arshavin, Fabregas, Wilshire, Arshavin, Arshavin, Fabregas

Attendance : 50,000
Assist : Teixeira (won fk)
